Lucas and oil viscosity

All the post about viscosity got me to thinking. Not always a good thing.I do believe Lucas oil additive is good, however what happens to viscosity? . I wonder if Lucas is mostly the old STP with new additives. Possibly zinc that used to be in most oils.Other ingredients also. So what say you?

Hello wilson Ind,

I would think by now the oil industry has all the applications-requiered ingredients it needs to put in the oil cans! No additive needed...

Guido.

I use lucas oil additive in my n14 once. 30,000 miles later I had an piston oiler start leaking. I pulled it out to replace and it was still coated with a film of lucas. made me a believer.

Bill,
Years ago, I put snake oil in my car. It was suppose to improve mileage and reduce engine wear. Then on Christmas eve I was driving to N. Indiana to my parents, in the snow and cold traveling about 45 mph. My daughter in back seat said, "Dad what's that red light flashing on the dash?"

It was the check engine light. I stopped at a gas station, only one open. Checked, Yep I checked, I had an engine. It wasn't running hot, had oil, no idiots lights on. So I drove it about 100 miles. After christmas, I had computer scanned and the O2 sensor was bad. I bought one at auto store. Read the information of new sensor. It said that oil additives can damage it. Last time I put snake oil in my oil.

Oil companies lowered the amount of zinc in their oil because new engines have roller lifters and don't need as much zinc, but older engines still do.
I use Lucas Zinc additive in my older engines to help prevent cam and lifter wear, I don't use the thicker STP type additives.

"Oil companies lowered the amount of zinc in their oil because new engines have roller lifters and don't need as much zinc"

I don't suppose the EPA had anything to do with that, do you?

OK I'll rephrase it.

EPA made oil companies lower the mount of zinc because new engines had roller lifters and didn't need as much zinc to prevent engine wear, less zinc is also supposed to help lower emissions.
EPA also wants us to get rid of our old equipment and buy new stuff with EGR, Regin and DEF emissions junk, but I'm not going to.

When I went to the Chrysler training center some years ago they told us they did not want anything in the crankcase but engine oil with the proper API and SAR ratings. They told us some additives actually hurt the engine. They also only wanted clean dry top tier gasoline with the correct octane rating used.

How can you get dry gas with ethanol?
