Ferguson Must Taste Good!

Spent most of the day doing a 50 hour maintenance on my sister-in-laws new Ferguson compact tractor.

What started out as a quick fluid change and looking things over turned into all day of chasing and replacing hoses!

Rats had chewed holes in the bypass and upper radiator hose, 2 of the emissions hoses, and a wire harness.

The dealer was closed, so I had to hit several auto supplies, matching up something that would work. Ended up putting a flex hose on for the upper radiator, it will have to do until I can get the right one (or they chew through it again).

I doubt it will do any good, but I bagged up some moth balls inside socks, tied them in various safe places around the engine compartment, and scattered some around the shed where it is stored.

Told her she needs to add some hungry cats to her little farm!

Don't know about rats, but pieces of Irish Spring soap placed around the wire/rubber parts works against mice for me

Mice like to live in the cab of my old farm dump truck, which is seldom disturbed. I did a bunch of work on the truck last winter, and thoroughly cleaned the cab, including the heater and duct work.

When I spotted mouse activity in my clean cab this fall, I finally set traps. I got some of these newer style plastic ones with jaws, which only have to drop 90 degrees. They seem to be more effective than the old wood and wire ones. I've caught 33 so far.

For rats you would probably need a barrel! Has anyone ever used a bucket stlye trap for rats? We had rats on the farm once, my folks put out a lot of poison, got rid of them.

I am putting injectors in a 1988 Ford f150 5.0 rats chewed the wiring up at the injectors. I liked to never got the injectors out they were stuck from rat pizz. Two intake to head bolts broke along with the lower thermo bolt. The heads on the intake bolts on one side were eroded away  I gave the intake a good dose of crushed red pepper hope it helps. It stunk so bad I washed the engine and gave it a good dose of vinegar the vin did take the stink away. I read you can get tape for rat issues.

My hall of fame rat issue was a Ford Bronco rats are squirrels would eat the plastic fuel line on top of the tank a few times a year. Why the bronco I dunno they never bothered anything else they owned they sold the bronco.

"Rameric" rodent control bait. Get it at the farm store. Toss several chunks of it in various places in the shed where the tractor is parked. The rats will take it back to the nest, so you'll need to replenish often.

I had a mouse/rat/nutra problem in my shop with a bathroom.
Tried traps, too messy, finally set a board on the toilet so they could run up to get water, fall in and all you have to do is flush!!
