Front or side mount distributor?? Are the spark plugs wet?? If they are there fouled so no start.
Do you have a good blue/white spark at all the plug wires?? tha twill jump a 1/4 inch gap or more.

What did you set the points at?? Front mount should eb set at 0.015 and side mount 0.025 and that can/will make a big difference if you have it wrong

it is side mount distributer and 12 volt. The points are set at 25 the plugs 26 and all plugs are trowing good fire. The plugs smelled of gas but not to wet.

If wet period they are fouled and need to be cleaned or replaced. I use NGK3112 plugs in all my stuff and they sure seem to help a lot. As for good spark just it jump a 1/4 inch gap or more?? If it does not it is to weak

Seen way to many that believed the firing order was right just to find out they had it 180 out due to thinking the #1 cylinder was closes to the steering wheel when I fact #1 is closes to the radiator. Being a side mount you might try cross the plug wires across the cap and see if it starts if ti does you had it 180 out which is easy also due to having #1 at TDC on the exhaust stroke instead of compression

I wish I were near you, I'd have it running in 30 minutes or you would know for sure why
it wasn't. We have had 3 Ford tractors in the shop already this week that others could not
get started. An 8N front mount, a 600 and a 901 and they have all been running within 30
minutes after they were rolled in. This is not rocket science. If it has fire to the plugs,
fuel, air and compression it will at least hit, even if it is out of time.Does it hit,
backfire or even attempt to start? If it doesn't, you don't have one of the above.

IT dosen't pop like it would if it were180 out.It not trying to crank even with a squirt of starting fluid.BUT have good fire to plugs and gas to cylinders. If the plugs are filed will they still have spark?

I had hard time starting an engine that
I just rebuilt. I put the distributer in
and out several times. Finally I
rechecked the spark plug wires. One
of my so called friends had switched
the wires around!

There appears to be something you're overlooking or just not seeing. It is a fact, tried and proven many millions of times, if it has fuel, spark, and compression AT THE PROPER TIME, it will run. Go back over the firing order again, double check the fire to the plugs and make sure it is blue (not orange) and check to see if the gas is getting to the plugs (if they are wet they are NOT going to fire (dry them off or replace with dry ones) Make sure it is in time and the plug wires are where they need to be & I'll bet it will start. Just my thoughts, Keith P.S. either get a book or bring checking the timing up on the internet for your engine and read up on it, you will be surprised at what you can find out.
