Vindication in the pasture

Victory on many fronts in the animal world today at Flat Land Farms! Finally had the first two spring calves - two cute little ladies. I found out
that I was right on with my preg checking. One of them was one that I checked and figured she was about 90 days. I was pretty spot on. Thank
you to YouTube and all of you who said you check your own. All the years I have had cattle and never figured out what I was looking for. Again,
YouTube, ha! That sure could have made the last 35 years less of a guessing game.

Also, this was my second calving with the calf catcher I saw someone here was talking about. I continue to be impressed with how much easier
it is to tag those little babies. Both of these mamas are plenty protective and they just circle the catcher waiting for me to be done. Ok, that
makes it sound like they are playing a round of cards - there were fits thrown but I don't have to worry about them.

Now that someone has broken the seal at each of those two pastures I think there will be lots in short order.

That sounds great!!!! I LOVE calving time myself. Since I feed all my own caves out I calve later. I shoot for May-June calves for 3/4 and the balance are fall calves, Sept..

In the calf catcher. They are a great thing. Especially when your older, slower, weaker, etc. LOL What they cost would not pay for very much medical treatment for you or the cattle.

Just curious. What is a calf catcher? Could have used something to keep mama at bay over the years. I vividly remember one calving where mama was lying on the ⅓ pond bank between the top of the bank and the water with her head up hill. Was having problems and I had to pull it. Was interesting getting it pulled and up out of harms way with her up hill from me "messing with her baby" and no place for me to run.

If its like the one my neighbor had last year it bolts to a ATV. Its like a side mounted cage that you drive up to the calf and shut the door on it. You can then work on the calf while protected from the mother. My neighbors worked great for a few days until the cows became wise to it. When they heard him coming they took their calves over to the corner of the pasture or to an area the cage wouldn't work. He then had a cage for sale, LOL!
