OT Rain in the Midwest

Well since last Friday we have had 9-7/10"of rain here in South Central Illinois close to St. Louis Mo.
My sump pump ran for an extended time yesterday causing it to blow or vibrate our back up sump pump off the "T" fitting. Clamp was tight so I put a small self tapper thru the fitting to hold it in along with the hose clamp. I was expecting to see a flood in the basement when I heard all that water gushing from that "T" fitting under pressure. I was relieved though.

The line got plugged on mine one time with a few wood chips and the darned thing just kept on running, but wasn't moving any water. That was a real mess.

John B., I'm near Litchfield and have recorded 10.3 inches for the same time period. I feel fortunate because I know many people got much more. Guess I'll wait for the winds to subside a little before I fire up the chain saw and start cleaning up trees.

I've had 8+ inches past 10 days. All basements are dry. Stopped raining last night. I'm driving tractor and load of compost in yard, no ruts.

The secret to a dry basement is angle dirt so water runs away from house, not huddle next to house.

Hmm...not doing a lot these days to keep friends, eh Geo??

Yep much of Missouri and Arkansas has had 5-15 or more inches of rain and boarding states. Many roads are in bad shape and there if talk of FEMA coming in again due to all this flooding
