Wife and I were in town today doing some farm errands. My 2008 Chevy 2500HD with 6.0 gas stalled on a busy downtown street at a stop light. All lights and gadgets seemed to work but it would not crank when I turned the key to start position. Check engine light was on. We sat for about 2 minutes as the wife was looking for a number for a tow company. All at once it cranked and started. Drove about a mile looking for a parking lot to get off the busy road and it stalled again at a light. This time we sat waiting 30 minutes for a tow half blocking traffic. Towed it 20 miles to my local shop and of course it started right up then. Truck has 32000 miles and absolutely no prior issues. Shop is going to look at it but anyone have a similar issue?

If the check engine light came on it should have set a code. The shop should be able to troubleshoot it from there. From my past experience with them I would hazard a guess it has a bad/corroded connection just due to it's age. If it was a failing fuel pump it would crank, but not start, but no crank leads me to believe it's got an electrical glitch.

Had the same problem a few years back with the same truck you have. Turned out to a short in wiring by steering shaft under steering wheel. Short fixed and works fine

I had a 2000 that did the same thing. Be drivin along and it would just quit. Turned out the ground cable bolt had corrosion on the end. But that truck had a side post battery. Cleaned it up and problem solved. Might be a place to start though.

Good Luck.

As others have said check for a bad connection. We had a car ran fine, parked it in the driveway one night, wouldn't start next day. We had a mechanic come to the house check it out, he thought computer quit, I didn't agree. It then got very cold so I had it flatbedded to my shop. After some trouble shooting I found that the ignition fuse was bad. Square fuse with S filiment, it looked fine but when I tapped it the corroded filiment crumbled. New fuse started right up and was fine.

It is important to know if the check engine light came and then it died,OR,if it died and then the engine light came on.Mark

Fuse box under the hood , they have corrosion issues. When it acts up push and wiggle on relays and fuses. Lots of times it is starter relay circuits and fuel pump circuits it seems. New fusebox is usually the fix. Since yours wont crank I would start with pushing down /wiggling starter relay when it acts up and have someone trying to start it, if it takes off when you are pushing on it , you found it.

Update: Shop called with the verdict. Main ecm failure. Codes they pulled from it were exclusive to the power driver circuit in the ecm failing. They were able to get it to repeat the stalling and no restart in the shop. An uncommon failure, they have had only one ecm failure in the 6.0 2500HD over the years. So $360 for the ecm plus labor and a $200 tow bill. At least I didn't have a loaded trailer behind it!
