Getting bigger

BIG RUH

Local John Deere dealer has grown from 1 to 7 dealerships in the last 15 years. They just announced purchasing another 6. They now have dealerships in 4 states.
There is only 1 that is a single dealership in the entire state of Illinois. Guess that eliminates getting a better price from another dealer. Now it's price is the price.

I have access to 3 different John Deere dealer multiple location "networks." The first of these, I have felt has been arrogant in their prices and services. Will have to see how the other 2 pan out. Past experiences have been good, but it becomes a whole different animal when "merger mania" hits and the dominant player sets the "corporate culture" in the system.

It is the wave of the future. Eventually Mother Deere will own the dealerships. Same thing is happening with Case-IH.

Deere is not doing use any favors for allowing these Mega Mergers to happen..it eliminates competition, and it seems that most of them really could care less about helping a customer out,,unless he is buying 5 combines...When they hit the Wall now it will be a very big impact, and the big one in my area is feeling the pinch now...

The manufacturers don't "allow" these mergers, they push the dealers into it. As the ACG said it is not just tractors. Pretty much all manufacturers are pushing it, but New Hampshire Supreme Court put a bump in the road ahead of them a few months ago. They ruled against a manufacturer that was trying to force dealers to take on a lot of debt in order to keep their line.

I have 3 JD dealerships within reasonable driving distance. Unfortunately they belong to the same chain. Getting harder and harder to deal with them. They always run high. I drove further away to try to get a quote for a tractor. First thing he asked was where I lived. When I told him I was informed that he couldn't sell to me because I wasn't in his area. I have to deal with my local dealer. Maybe he was full of BS or just didn't want to deal with me but that's what he said.

It's much the same in the HVAC world. Most large brands will sell to you only through the distributor that "serves" your zip code or region. It makes one brand alot stronger than another just because of one dealer being easier to deal with than another. In my area a Carrier can be sold way cheaper and serviced better than a Trane just because of who is selling it.

Toss another variable into it is an independent dealer has to buy from Trane and then has to compete with Trane for the service. Supposedly Trane service and sales are 2 separate businesses. Lol they both owned by the same place franchise and underthe same roof. It is everything not just ag equipment.

Not quite true here in Ohio. The J.D. dealer "Bridgeport" in Gallipolis, Ohio is quite a bit higher than the Bridgeport J.D. dealership in Marietta, Ohio. They are both Bridgeport but are different ownerships or managers. I don't know the particulars but the price of a new tractor is sure a lot different. Keith

Neighbor went looking for a new Deere 85 to 95 horse range. J.D, dealer wouldnt budge on price. He went to a Massey dealer and bought what he wanted for a lot less.... and likes what he got.

I just looked up the info for Nodde. 12 locations in 2 states, IL and MO. Where did you get the info of 13 locations in 4 states?
