Still running Windows XP?

The threat of last month's WannaCry attack is so critical that
Microsoft actually released new patches for unsupported
operating systems such as Windows XP, but you have to get it
manually. [b:c83862bf9f]Here's[/b:c83862bf9f] a link to the explanation page with download links.

Royse, thanks for posting.

I know I have Windows XP Service Pack 3 but the link wants more info. How do I find it.

Roger

Click "Help" and "About" and you should get a page with all the info.
If you can't get there, post back and I will crank up my old XP machine to refresh my memory.

Roger, if you're talking about the x64 listing, you can tell that
from right clicking on my computer and looking in Properties
I think. It has been a long time since I've looked at an XP machine.
I'll spin one up if you need a definitive answer.

But, if it is a home computer, odds are it is NOT x64.
The other one should work.
If you download the wrong one, it simply will not install.
It will tell you it is not correct for your version of Windows.

I appreciate the phone calls too, which prompted me to post
this addition: If your "old" machine is not connected to the
internet any longer, you don't need to connect it to the internet
just to get this update. This is mostly for internet connected
machines. Yes, it effects Windows Vista as well as newer systems.
The newer systems will get the updates via normal channels.

Worried me a bit when protection stopped since we check bank accounts and buy stuff online. Bought a new computer a few weeks ago for $450. Hopefully I get 9 years out of this one like I did the XP. Thing still worked great too for what I used it for.

Wish I still had Windows Vista. I HATE Windows 10. If I could re-install my old Vista I would do it happily.

My backup machine is EP while the main one is Windows 7 but both have Firefox on them and that is what I use regulery now after had a virous problem.

I am still running XP on everything but this laptop which is Windows 7 and I have updates turned off on it. Just because MS said they would no longer support it didn't make it stop working. As far as protection, a little common sense will keep you out of trouble better than anything MS can do.

(quoted from post at 07:16:33 06/14/17) I have 10 now and don't really like it. I disabled Cortana. I really liked XP and 7.
Microsoft, IMHO, was pushing way to hard to have people switch to W10. I stayed with W7 and think its ok. Probably in a few years something better than w10 will come along and then I will switch.

I did not use the link however the MS and/or anti virus did an update on the 12th. Have not been able to download any new mail via ThunderBird since .
