Rear Tractor Tire Opinions

The time has come to replace the 13.6 x 38 tires on my Oliver 88. Blew one tube and the tire was so weather-checked that it destroyed itself in the short distance it took to get to a level spot to work on it. That said, the other is not worth keeping so a new set is probably in order.

Called around and the options in my price range are Carlisle (6-ply), Speedways Grip-King (8-ply), Mitas (6-ply), and BKT (6-ply). Anyone have any experience with these brands and durability?

Tractor is still used for field work and doesn't road travel at all. Stored inside. Thanks!

Those are likely all Chinese made. I would think the ply rating would be the most important factor

I went with BKT's 13.6 by 38 on my Super M IH......Hook up and pull great. 45 degree tread like originals. What ever you decide keep them out of the SUN.

I had to replace a tire on my Oliver S88 not long ago. I called all over the place trying to find a good deal and the best I could get was for an Alliance. The old tire size was 13X38 which is the new number of 14.9X38 and it cost me $500.

Dealer just sold me some Samson for duals on an older tractor, they don't have many bars, will work fine for me we didn't want too aggressive on the outside of the dual set, but they do look like a cheap tire.

Got some smaller Carlisle a week later on my compact utility loader, they look impressive, 6ply look a lot more tire than the 4 ply Firestones that were on it!

Only 2 months on either, so I have no idea on how they will last or be.

Well, if 8 ply is same price as 6 ply, I would go with 8 ply. But I don't know anything about speedways grip-king.

I went with BKT on my 100 hp. Caseih. I like there profile and they seam to be a bit taller then Firestones. Also a bit narrower which I like because I row crop with these 18-4-34. They seam to be wearing very well.

Mitas has factory in Charles City Iowa. European company headquarters. Don't know if they import any or all made there that sell here.

I just put BKT's on my Farmall M a few weeks ago. 8 ply at around $510 a piece. Seems like a good tire.

I put Galaxy tires my 88. This is the tread pattern. I am not impressed with the traction in what little plowing I have done with it. Seems to me this tractor has more power than traction but I'm more accustomed to plowing with a two banger so I am partly comparing apples to oranges.

I sold some of all those brands in the 20 years I was in the tire business. FYI I just checked with my old supplier, if I was still in the tire business the 13.6 X38 SAmpson would cost you $438.00 each put on the tractor at the shop. That is with the rim still on the tractor. Tube + pumping fluid if you have it would be extra. Hope you can find a better deal close to home. Firestone's cost more but they are a far better tire.
