Meaning of genuine?

I see a lot of words used today in different ways then I am used to. E.g. "rebuild", "new", etc. all seem to be stretched.

How about "genuine?"

I thought I did my homework in buying a new Weber carburetor. I read many warnings about the market being flooded with Chinese clones and how to ID the fakes, etc. I finally bought this one. Just opened the box and it is a Chinese clone. One caveat though. The seller seems to have paid for permission to use the Weber logo. So, does that make it now "genuine?" Not in my book, but perhaps I am getting old.

It may be fine and just as good as one I regard as genuine and made in Europe. Time will tell. It certainly is not exactly the same.

Hello JDEM

To me it means it is the real thing................. AUTHENTIC! Made from the people that have their name on it. Bet you the land of almost right can't spell it!. It can by the rights to flaunt it though,

Guido.

Looks like it says in the ad that they're no longer made in Italy, listing 5 countries, including China. They have a good return policy and good feedback, and lots of it. It would likely be just fine, but if you don't want it they'll probably take it back. You'll just take a loss on shipping one way.

How could I worry about what genuine means when for the last 2 or 3 years I have been called "perfect" 2-3 times a day, :D?

Going to be hard to get a good answer on the country or origin these days.

This place says they only sell the made in Spain ones, but anybody can write whatever they want on the product.

How do you really know?
Carbs Unlimited

Yes, and this carb does NOT have the embossed name "WEBER" on it like the European version actually made by Weber does. It did not even come in Weber packaging like it shows in the Ebay ad. Might be fine or might be inferior. I just don't like being duped.

You probably got duped.

The seller is counting on getting lost in the crowd on ebay. With so many different sellers and tens of millions of products you gotta realize that there are a lot of people selling knock-offs as the real thing.

Good luck getting anything done about it. I'm sure they'll gladly refund your money as long as you don't threaten to expose them, not that exposing them will do any good. These counterfeiters can close up one shop and open a new one in mere minutes, picking right up where they left off. That is if they don't already have 100 different sellers set up on Ebay to begin with! You'd be playing a virtual game of whack-a-mole.

Yes, but a "perfect WHAT"??

The two banger tune up parts I get from Deere are certainly not genuine Deere. I forget if Deere still has 'genuine John Deere Parts' on their boxes but if they do, sometimes they are doing false advertising.

Back in the late 50's, I worked my way through college putting hundreds of New Departure bearings into "genuine John Deere" boxes. However, I think JD used ND bearings in their new products. Leo
