J.D. rake in auction yesterday

I ended up buying the John Deere 594 hay rake I had in the auction yesterday and would like to do something with it. I'd like to give it to a J.D. collector that would paint it back original and put it in shows with his J.D. tractors. I don't want to give it to anyone to use tho it is in good condition. If that doesn't work then I'll sell it for a reasonable price. If anyone is interested just email me.

You would rather see it fixed up for shows than put back in use, I hope I misread that. Its probably newer and in better shape than the rake I use.

A big consideration for stuff going to shows is hauling. A hay rake is hard to load, and takes a big trailer to haul. Guess I'd rather see someone get some use out of it, but its your rake to do with as you please.

I will second coshoo's observation that showing implements is harder as they are much harder to trailer. Your not going to pull an old hay rake very far on the road either.

So I would either just sell it or donate it to some museum.

You know guys, I really just wanted to do something good for somebody and never thought how hard it is to load one of the darned things. It is still a good rake and is basically ready to go to the field with some better tires on it. Thanks for waking me back up to reality. I'll advertise it for sale.

I'm still putting mine to use. It's loose jointed and I've replaced half the teeth by now but it still does the job. Dad bought it new in the late40's. In the late 50's and all through the sixties my sis and I Spent many boring hours pulling it round and round raking hay. I'm sitting here on the deck looking at it right now.

Sometimes it is hard to get them in a museum. I have tried several museums to put my whole collection in and any good museum seems to be full.

I thought the purpose of an auction was to sell something--if I know they are for appraisals----I dont go the auctioneer needs to chg a 500 dollar bid back fee

I was going to ask how your auction went yesterday because if was so hot I went through that area around 2:00 yesterday but I was working and couldn't make it. Also I have a rake just like that one and am going to use the rear tires for a dolly wheel on a new idea rake I have.
John

I didn't appraise it, I bid on it and I bought it---And I paid for it just like you or anyone else would do. Keith

He wanted to scrap the damned thing. You know, I sure as hell wish I had let him have it and not posted anything on here trying to do something good for someone.
