Moving Grain

Nice old truck . I remember as a kid , when there were fellas that would have a truck , and make their entire living with a truck like yours . Hauling grain , cattle , hogs , logs to the saw mill, just about any thing. Seemed like evry farmer needed to hire a truck to haul some thing. Now every one pretty much hauls their own stuff, and a single axle truck is either too big for small jobs , and too small to bother with for big jobs. The world has changed , but I still like the old straight trucks like yours.

So smooth you'd think it was an automatic transmission!

Posted at OldIHC also?

Still waiting on the title for mine, found out from the application that mine is a 1974 now, not 1973.

My dad had a similar old International Loadstar...not a bad old truck really however it had an odd shift pattern...and the hoods had a tendency to come down on my head when the wind caught them!! I kept a hook off an old rubber tarp starp on each side to put in the hood struts so the old truck couldn't try drop the hoods on my head....

Also fun going down the road empty(high speed) and one or the other hood comes unlatched and starts flapping around...

The old Loadstar was a 1969 I think with a 345ci engine..and was about the fastest old wheat truck I ever drove! Unloaded you could approach 90mph!!

Pretty much nobody hauls grain here with a single axle, gas powered truck anymore but as in most things, I'm a little behind the times.
The hoods are tight and secure on this Loadstar. I guess I've approached 90 mph on this one too but I've never pushed it beyond 55 :) The old 304 sounds comfortable at that speed.

Rusty the truck fits in well with your setting and beautiful
countryside. It would be a good time to catch one's breath on a trip
if only for a few minutes.

Its about a five mile run each way Jim so I get time to relax and enjoy the scenery for sure.

Rusty what a cool truck. The first truck I drove for the Company I still work for was IH loadstar with a 549 gas.
Geared slow passed everything but a gas station with one saddle tank 50 GAL and pulling a 40' trailer loaded with Steel. The good old days for sure IMO.

Nice truck. I had a IHC twin screw dump truck with a 549 and a 6 speed aliason automatic. Wish I still had it.

Would sure be nice to have the power of that big 549 sometimes. Bet it was a thirsty one for gas though.

Sounds like double clutching? Correct? Look at those straight roads! You mentioned a hill, but it doesn't appear that way in the video. Looks just like where I grew up in North Dakota. Like old home week. Thanks for posting.

Its true, those hills never look as impressive on a 2 dimensional screen as they are in real life. Believe me, pulling over 300 bushels with 180 horsepower you know where every hill is and build up velocity accordingly.
No double clutching in the video. In fact my 3-4 upshift is often done without clutching at all, just the gas pedal. Same deal with the axle shift in 4th gear. Smoother and faster without the clutch, just the throttle.
