If you hate mice and rats this youtube channel is for you! A guy by the name of Shawn Woods tests every kind of mouse and rat trap he can find including some from the 1800's. He explains how they are supposed to work then takes them to the barn and sets them up with IR cameras to record the results. Perhaps he is on here. Not recommended for PETA members!
I'm not computer literate enough to post a link. Sorry.

The link below is from the guy you speak of, and was also posted just 4 days ago. It shows the difference between the low-power traps common in the USA, and then 2 different and much stronger traps from Russia. I've always hated the old design, but it has stood the test of time. I think these new designs will end up winning out though. Very impressive:

In order to post a link, look at the top of the web page that you want to share (in this instance, on youtube) and click your mouse in the space where the web address is displayed. Right click one time, then select Copy. Move to your post and right click again, then select Paste. If you leave it at that, the web address will show up but will not be an actual link. So then you highlight the address using your mouse and then click on the button above called URL.

I set three traps in my polebarn. I used peanut butter. I went over yesterday and all traps were still set with the peanut butter gone!. Reloaded them, and upon leaving, I witnessed a cricket munching on one of the traps. Don't see any droppings. Maybe I don't have mice?

PAGlenn -- Here's a couple ideas you might try. The first is from the same person's youtube page:

The next is a very simple method that "looks" like it might could help you answer that question without much $$ investment:

However, if you have REALLY big mice (otherwise known as rats....and often from the gov't  ), you might even consider THIS mouse trap!
