What is your opinion of a ford dump truck single axle with 10 foot bed with a 7.3 international motor and a 6 speed transmission with no two speed axle, to keep it trator related I enjoy my john deere 2555 tractor

Might be a good level ground truck, but in my neck of the woods it would be very under powered. We have a few roll backs and light duty trucks around with 7.3 engines.Nobody braggs on them. I had a F-800 with a 5.9 Cummins and a 6 speed and it was very under powered. A two speed rear axle will perk it up a lot. Knowing the differental ratio would also be a big help. It may be geared high and won't pull or it may be geared low and have a maximum speed of 50 MPH. Personally I would never own a Medium Duty truck that didn't have a 5 and 2. You can't imagine how good it is to have 2 reverse speeds when you are backing up and dumping.

I have a 01 f250 with a 6spd 373 rear. Also have a 91 f800 with the 7.8 ford diesel and 5+2. Its a good truck, I love it, but it has nothing for the little 3/4 ton no matter the weight or the hill. I've hauled heavier loads with the 7.3 than the 7.8 and wished I had a 7.3 in the dump truck. You won't be disappointed!!

For me it would depend on where the rear axle is placed. I've driven one with the axle too near the center of the box and when something got stuck in the tail gate when spreading gravel the front of the truck came off the ground about 3 feet. Not a comfortable situation.

The lack of the two speed axle is a concern too depending on where you might be when starting a load and what the lowest gear was. Slipping a clutch to start a load isn't a good plan.

there fine, if the truck is in good shape, if your in relatively flat country if you in mountains your going to miss the 2 speed when your loaded

The 7.3 in a dump is a turd. It's a good engine don't get me wrong but it's a navistar 7.3. Not a powerstroke. Not huge difference power wise but parts are very different. With a truck that heavy you're experience is going to be very different. Find somthing with an 8.3 or larger unless you have lots of time and no hills where you live.

We always kept a bigger stake truck on the farm for hauling bigger loads with back in the 50's and 60's. Pickups weren't what they are today. Now days you can just get a collection of trailers and a heavy duty pickup and haul as much of a load as you could with a 2 ton larger truck. I have seven different trailers I use for hauling this and that. In Mi. you buy a one time lic. plate for your trailer and that's it. Not to mention you can use your pickup truck for personal use with a farm plate on it which cost about a third of the price of a regular plate. I was hauling 4 yard loads of gravel in this week, with my dump trailer and could probably hauled 5 yard loads with it, just as a example. Just my opinion for what its worth.

If the 7.3 engine is the one that International designates as the "DT444E" (essentially the same as the Ford 7.3 Powerstroke), it will likely be OK. If it's the old 7.3 IDI without a turbocharger, you won't be happy with the power it produces.

guessing 200 hp with a 6 speed not enough power.backing up a hill tailgating 8-10 ton of stone takes a lot of smoke, lot better with a 5+2 trans
