Looking at Ford 6000

Ad says it hasn't ran in ten years but started right up. Looking for any ideas on what I should look for? I have heard the selectospeed can be expensive. Thank you!

They would have good tractors if they would have offered them with a good ol clutch/manual transmission. My dad had a 6000 long ago the parts for the select-o-speed where expensive back then, the diesel engine they had was a workhorse when the transmission worked like it should.

The Ford 6000 is an orphan.

Parts are difficult to find and expensive.

Don't pay much for it.

There is a 6000 at my neighbor's. It was on the spreader until he ran it out of fuel. I ran it a few times and the select o speed worked ok. Pic is his spreader with my tractor he always wanted it full. It will run just has a knock in her. I need to hide the either from him!

Like the Jubilee the 6000 was an intro model. The next year it became the Commander. They are the same tractor except for color. If the one that you are looking at is red and gray instead of blue and white, and the serial number pans out, don't worry about parts, jump on it. They are becoming sought after. Yes SOS parts can be tough to find, but you have the internet, and a few parts are being made after market.

Thank you for the quick response. He is asking $800 and did not return my call yet. I'm sure he has a few to answer. Here is a pic. It does have ether in one of the pics.]

I wanted one of those so bad I could taste it when I was a kid. Dad told me I could buy a used one myself when I got older. I still would if the price was right.

I got my 6000 in 1973 when i got of school painted back to red and gray it was sent back to the factory their is a decal do by the key and it says Rebuilt by ford formco, It was my
big tractor for years and i new where it came from does hay and tractor shows.Went to a show at Waseon Ohio a few years back and they had a class on the tranissin it was a good
leaning.

The 6000 was made from '61 to '64... the Commander didn't show up until '65 through '67. You are right about them changing from red
and grey to blue and grey in their second year though. The one in his picture is a 6000, not a Commander 6000.

If it runs ok and the Select-o-speed is ok buy it. Jumpy gear shift are pretty normal. I'd like to find one. I think they are pretty collectable. I think some select-o-speed parts are very hard to find now. Go to the Ford page and do a search on it.
If you are looking for a tractor to work every day, maybe keep looking. I don't think the 6000 was Fords most reliable model.

Thanks for the responses. I have wanted one for awhile too. I think I misquoted the price. Believe he is asking $975. Still haven't heard back. Don't need another tractor but I think it would be fun to play with.]
