Jeff went to a sale today. Picked up a small just fresh 1st calf heifer- $540. picked up another one (bigger) fresh about 30 days-$840. He said they had a lot of finished beefers- $.88 per pound. He said they all went about 1500 lbs. Gonna be a lot of unhappy farmers tomorrow about the time the mail drops the checks off.

Must have been fat Holsteins at that price. St Louis Michigan was quoting colored fats at $1-1.20 at Monday's sale. Fat Holsteins at .72-.92.

I have sat at the sale barn and seen what the cattle sold for. Then read the posts from the sale barn and they dont match. Some barns are posting better prices than what things really sold for. If they posted low prices you may ship them somewhere else, or sit it out awhile. Dont always beleive what you read in the farm papers. Al

Well I got my check today and it was not bad at all. Average after all sale barn fees was $1.21. So that is not bad. These were not the best calves any way. They where what was sorted out of the truck loads in this pen.

I talked to some Holstein guys and they are OK IF they had them under contract. Then they are getting around $1.05-1.10. So with current feed cost they are making some money. The open market sellers are hurting even with cheaper feed.
