We are at a point where Linda and I are looking to add a friend to our family. A fellow YT member here has a buddy in his fold that protects, and keeps good company. I neglected in my later years to remember his name. I hope you may share your canine friend with the forum. As I remember, he is a truck dog. Any posts would be welcome .Chuck Machinist and wife Linda

We have a 5 year old male heeler, he?s a great dog but heelers are very high energy. If I were to get another heeler I?d get a female, a friend has one and she?s tempered the same as my dog but she weighs 20 lbs less and is easier to handle.

heeler's are great dogs. they do get bored easily. we taught our to let herself in and out of the house. took her 10min to master opening the door from the inside. that was the single biggest item for making life great for both her and us!

for an all around dog, I suggest an Austrailian sheep dog, looks like a border collie, loves to herd and protect and can be taught most anything you wan to teach them. Great inside and outside. Mine kept every one rounded up, called me when things went wrong , opened and closed doors and watched over the cats with special car. comes in tri=color, high red(chocolate brown like mine) and mottled.

last week I buried my dog. he was Australian Shepard and springer spaniel mix. very protective of me and my place.howie was smarter than most of the people I know. he was the best dog I've ever had. probably one of the best 10 dogs in the world. you won't go wrong with Australian Shepard.

I had a Blue Healer, good dog and several Austrailian Shepards, they are also good dogs . I had one Calahoula, I loved that dog but she was crazy. The best dog that I have had and currently have is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. But it all depends on what you need a dog for. My Ridgeback is not a good watch dog, He loves people and cats but he keeps the varmits away. He killed a coon in the back yard last week.

This is my dog Alice. She is an Australian cattle dog red healer mix. She weighs about 40 pounds. I just couldn?t ask for a better dog or a better buddy. That said, she is very athletic and very energetic. She would not do very well in town. She loves to go for rides. She can easily jump on the bed of my one ton flatbed. She?s very friendly with everyone but boy does she make noise when somebody comes in the yard. My wife is in memory care and I take Alice with me when I go see her. She goes to all the other residents and lets them pet her. I?ve counted 18 different words and phrases that she recognizes. She is very smart.

I too, buried my beloved Australian Shepard, last week.(14 yrs old)I still have a daughter of hers. but she was the greatest dog !! great at herding, great at watching over small kids. I don't think she ever let me get out of her sight.

I think you are referencing Billonthefarm. I have a picture of his red heeler sitting in a truck cab on the wall at the shop.

Hi We had a healer cross collie adopted us when she kept running away from another farm that had adopted her as somebody else was going to shoot her. it was a real nice dog and had about 5 years with us. one day she just wasn't right she was a fantastic mouse and rat catcher and that day she just didn't have it. sadly she got heart failure and passed a couple weeks later. she loved truck rides to, She was scared of crop duster planes and thunder though. She ran off and was gone 10 days after a storm, and turned up next door when a storm came the other way.

We thought she was dead somewhere she fended for her self all that time. Shortly after that dad watched her run down the field catching prairie chickens in front of the combine, so thats how she survived. She could also run down the middle of barn road you couldn't see the sides of after a snow storm, Dad used to follow her with the tractor those days. He just had to stop while she had a rest break l.o.l. she new where that road went on the 2 curves as well so was a smart dog to. We all still miss that dog today and she's been gone nearly 8 years.

They are not all nice dogs like any breed can be, I had a friend had a couple healers and some farms I go to have them. I don't trust those other dogs. They are plain nasty they will run under the truck when you pull up in the yard and try rip your leg off when you get out. or just turn up and bark like mad and try attack you. one place if nobody's around I either call the guy and find out where they are and won't get out unless somebody's around now. He rents our bins and sometimes one dogs in the cab with him, it's just plain nasty in the truck if you go to talk to him in our yard to.
Regards Robert

Chuck........do you really wanna puppy? Thats a 6-month commitment before they kenn be reliable not to wee-wee inna the house. ...2nd... gitt one of them lite weight fiberglass kennel crates and train yer puppy to kennel-up. Thats his SAFE place. ...3rd... train yer dog to DOWN on command. That'll save a lotta problems. ...4th... NEVER call yer dog to come and then beat'er fer doing sumptin' wrong. Down'er and then go to her and SCOLD her fer doing sumptin' wrong. Ya donna haffta beat'em. The SCOLD is worse'n a beating. ...4th... teach'em to "heel" with a lease, that'll keep'em outta problems. ...finally... consider a "RESCUE" dog. They're already grown and will respond to a NEW LOVING family.........doggy Dell

We had a 1/2 Blue Healer, 1/4 Border Collie & 1/4 German Shepard. She would herd and drive cattle on command . Loved riding on the tractor or in a vehicle . She cleaned the ground hogs out of our farm and the surrounding farms.
An ankle biter by nature and wanted to nip the feet of people getting into a vehicle .
Rather timid and excitable as a puppy and would whiz on the floor. She tolerated children but did not like them.
After our other dog the kids loved and played with, a Golden Retriever died . The Blue Healer decided it was her additional duty to let the kids pet her and play ball for 2-3 minutes then she would sneak off.
At age 13 she wasn’t feeling or looking well all of a sudden for a few days . I came home for the weekend , petted and talked to her for a while then she laid down and died .

Our Heeler Diesel 18 months and the sweetest Tasmanian devil you will ever know?

I agree that Blue/Red heelers can resemble a Tasmanian Devil. They're very loyal & territorial. I had 3 different heelers & the most aggressive one of the 3 would bite holes in car tires of visiting cars(3 different times) if he so chose to do so.

Thanks for all the comments and pictures. I am not sure if Harley was the one in the post last year. I will not take on that breed with out doing more research . Thanks again for all your pics and thoughts. CM

Tucker was about 8 months when I got him. Think he he'd heart failure at about 12. He was a great dog. He didn't trust kids and didn't like to be petted and he would let you know. Now scratching and patting was ok. He stayed with me everywhere I went. I never had to look for except every now and then he would go jump in the neighbors pond or the creek. Sure miss him and that's where Cinch comes in. So far he is a sweet little guy but still has a lot of learning to do. I hope he turns out half as good as Tucker.
