Wish we had enough snow for a blower it?s warming up here might start moldboard plowing again if it stays like this

Getting more technical. Do you have any vibration or whipping problems? I have seen where the thinner a drive shaft the more tendency it has to flex. How do you keep things under control or do you just build things good and beefy to get around those problems. I refer back to reading about ship propeller shaft, steam locomotives and even the P-39 Air Cobra. All had whipping problems till re-engineered. Crazy when you find a hollow lite weight tube shaft is rock solid stable yet a soild bar weighing three times more will whip all over the place. Thatis one of the biggest reasons a drive shaft is a follow tube.

No driveline whipping that I've ever seen, the lower gearbox driveshaft telescopes just like the PTO top shaft does. There are three pillow block carrier bearings bolted to the angle iron frame for the shaft support between the two three inch square tubes. Had to add thirty inches to the square tubes as the outfit was on a shorter tractor before. I'd really like to change the gearbox from the 1 to 1 ratio now to 1 in and .75 out, for 750 at blower with 1000 input. Maybe I'm greedy, but I like seeing the snow really FLY!

Sounds as if you have a pretty good handle on things. Just hope nothing ever lets go while you are under full power. Do you have some kind of guards? Don't mean to be negative I just hear too many stories about bad things. Almost took my toes off with a lawn mower. Also found out what happens when you hit the tire on a John Deere chopper with a mechanics wrench!!!! Ever see stars and planets in the day time???

This is where the John Deeres with front pto had the competition beat. A friend of mine converted a rear mount three point blower into a front mount and ran it off th front pto. He has it on a 4020 but started out with a 3020 as seen in the video. Too bad he didn't have more snow at the time. Not sure but I think the front pto ran 1000 rpm so he has to keep the engine rpm down lower to not over speed the blower.
3020 JD on Snowblower

Neat video, thanks for posting. I want to run the blower faster, but know it will pull harder doing so. When comparing actual blower sizes, 540 silo fill blowers have a 56 inch fan, 1000 RPM blowers are 40 inch. The BER-VAC has a 26 inch diameter fan. I did run it some last year on 1000 for a bit, it sure blew farther but pulled much harder too. May be awhile before it's tried on the larger tractor, supposed to warm up some next week. Brother has a nine foot three auger snow blower on an older New Idea Uni system, county has his number on file when the truck plows get stuck if it's really bad.

Yes, the front pto, under the belly of the tractor, is 1000rpm only. Had a 4020, still have the 3020, with that setup. Used mine for a sprayer pump when I had saddle tanks on it.

First blower I heard of locally was in the mid/late 60s, kind of a big time farmer for the time had it on a 4010 or 20 and ran a rail road tie through it. That was the big news in the neighborhood.
