Starting TD9

They just brought my uncles TD9 home. We think it has been sitting for 3 or 4 years. Since the last time I started it was in 1969 I have forgotten the levers and the sequence. Of course, we cant find the manual which we know he had here somewhere. Could someone walk me through the levers and sequence so we can get it started. the battery is not right in it so I think it would be a 12 volt positive ground but it could be 6 volt or 24 volt all of us alive have forgotten everything but the thousand times it take to turn wrench when we throw the track.

I use to know, but since forgotten, but I would post this also in the IHC & crawler forum here. You might get a quicker reply.

Look up the "Red Power" forum, anything you want to know those guys can tell you.

it is 12 volt. came with 2, 6 volt battery's. pump rack might be stuck, plus injection pump oil check. lots to check first. and when not sure which position levers should be , can tell just by the cranking . throttle lever on pump must be moving rearward for advance of throttle. just looking things over its easy to tell how things work. dont get in a hurry to get it started make sure things are working first.

That is one of them that starts on gas isn't it? If so there are no 12 volt batteries. I never started a crawler, but lots of Ms, 400, and 450 diesels. Haven't started one in a number of years so I am no help.

I think this link enables you to download an owner's manual. You have to register and I think the first month is free. A lot of positive comments attesting to the fact that it is not a scam site.
TD9 Manual

If my memory is still working our TD 6 started by making certain there was gasoline in the small gas tank and diesel fuel in the big tank. Tho levers on the dash, one is diesel throttle, other is compression release. Both lever down, choke out. Key switch is on, hand clutch disengaged.Starter should engage and engine starts burning only gasoline. After engine warms up pull up on both lever at the same time. Engine is now running on diesel. Turn off key switch, shut off fuel shutoff on gas tank. Now you are very busy with hand clutch, trans gear shift, two steering clutch levers and two steering beake pedals, a foot brake and a bucket control lever....."Seems like yesterday but that was in 1949.........

At one time I had TD-6 which is a small one but started the same. I think I still have a manual for it but would have to look since it has been a while since I had it in my hands. If I where you since it has sat a long time I would fil the cylinders with ATF so as to lube it up good and free up the rings if they are stuck. There's a place here in Missouri that may still have parts for one like that.

Well I have stated it so many times do I have to do so each and every time?? Simple let it sit a week pull the plugs back out spin it over to clear the cylinder and then try to start it up

Short memory?? I have posted what to do so many times one would think I would not have to post it each and every time. If I have said it once on Y-T I have said it 100 times if not more like 500 times

My sincere apologies ..... unfortunately I'm not in your fan club following and have failed to read all your posts over the years. I must try to do better inn 2018 !!!

LOL ya I know not all of you read my posts but I have talked about ATF and how to use it so many times on here in the past 20 or so years I have been posting I forget not every one has read about it and how many times I have use it to free up rings and engines
