What is the difference between these words?

DEPOT

and

DEPOT

No they are not the same and mean different things. Anyone know the difference? I learned it today.

I know some people pronounce them differently. My parts manager at the dealership pronounced it "Depppp-Oh" emphasis on "Oh" instead of "Deeeeep-oh". My guess? A depppp-oh is where goods are shipped and deeeeeep-oh is where humans are shipped? Like a train depot?

Jon ...... well, all definitions are nouns for a start, and really I would say they are essentially the same thing. Maybe a wee bit different with regards to what is contained or located in them but basically, the definition is pretty much the same in my opinion ....

Definition of depot

1 a : a place for storing goods or motor vehicles
b : store, cache a fat depot in the body

2 a : a place for the storage of military supplies
b : a place for the reception and forwarding of military replacements

3 a building for railroad or bus passengers or freight

Depot, pronounced dee-poh is a train or bus or some other stop where things are loaded and unloaded, but not stored.

DEPOT pronounced depp-oh is a storage facility.

So all the years we have been saying Home Depot wrong, it should be Home Depot!
