There was some Mexicans around here that stoped along road and pulled up small soybeans to cook with. When the sheriff got there they had pulled up 50ft square area.

True story:

Wife and I were heading home one day when the sunflowers were in full bloom. She wanted one.
i happened to find a nice-sized one growing all by itself in the ditch. got my knife and made the li'l lady happy.

Brought it to her and she just marveled at it, then wanted me to get a couple more. I handed her the knife and suggested she get them. ...She was happy with the one. *lol*

Guy I knew had some ditch weed. One day they saw a car pull up and begin "harvesting" the stuff. They called the Sheriff, then proceeded down there to let em know they was trespassing. When the deputy arrested them down the road, the weed was so weak it wouldn't test positive with the test kit.

My wife maintains a nice bed of Irises on one field bank along the road and we also protect a line of blackberry bushes on the next field bank and it's amazing how many folks think they grow wild and are free for the taking, but my favorite line when I caught them stealing ear corn was,,,,,,,,"I didn't think anyone owned this land."
