Split rim blues

No one around here does split rims, and no one has a split rim hammer I can use.

I don't want to buy a hammer just to do 5 wheels. I will have to start looking over in Dallas area. It's also gonna be costly.

Where are you located?

Are you trying truck tire shops? There should be some that will do them, I know one south of Ft Worth that will unless they are the split wheel type, they may even do those.

If you end up doing them yourself, when you buy the tools, be sure to get a clip on chuck!

What's the name of the shop south of FTW?
 
If they're the true split rim, no one around
here will work on them. If they are the
snap ring style they will but don't want to.
They aren't any more dangerous than any
other rim. People just don't pay attention
to what they're doing and they can't throw
them on a machine that'll do all the work
for them. Personally I think snap ring tires
are easier to handle.
 
The one style that is actually split rim, in the middle, yes the don't work on them any more. Too hard to see if they are done right or not. They
have the 'widowmaker' nickname.

Split rings, out on the edge, are fine and a real tire shop should have no problem working on those, several different styles of them.

I am guessing you mean a "duck bill" hammer,try at a truck stop repair shop(Loves, etc). Bring it here and I will fix it. A big hammer and a couple of wedges will work.
