grain bin company comments

Hello everyone ,
I will be putting up a 34,000 bu.bin this summer and would like comments on which bin gives me the best value and quality. Right now I am leaning towards Superior grain bin. Comparing the total weight of Superior vrs.Sioux,which is my second choice, there is a big difference in weight! Just looking for some input from guys that have been down this road. Don't want to make a mistake. I know that I can request testimonials from past customers from the salesperson, but my feelings are, they're going to find people that are biased towards the company, say only good things. Thanks in advance for the response!!

It's hard to believe a big difference. I never compared weight. My bins are an assortment of brands, but basically the same thing, except for the most recent one. The older bins are what I think they called a 2.33" corrugation? 32" tall sheets, 3 sheets high is 8'. Bin diameter divided by 3 equals number of sheets per ring.

The most recent bin is a flatter corrugation, I think 4" ? Totally different size sheets. But the bin is externally stiffened.

So, are these bins you're comparing the same type, like apples to apples, or not?

What equipment will you be installing with it?

I have 1 superior bin and have had no trouble with it. I believe the people putting the bin up have more to do with the quality than the
bin. The one thing I look for in a bin more than any other as I age is a good easy to open walk in door.

my mistake. the Sioux bin is a 42'diameter 7 ring bin, the superior bin is 42'diameter 8 ring bin. capacities are very similar if comparing both similar size bins,but the price quoted me on this project last winter during winter discount days on the smaller Sioux bin is much higher than the superior larger bin quote that I got just a couple days ago. I admit my mistake on bin size,that will add to the weight of the Sioux bin, still BIG price difference!

In my area, central IL GSI is #1 and Brock used to be.

in central Minnesota, Sioux is really big ,lots of Brock bins also GSI maybe comes in third!

I have not seen any Superior bins in this area. There are a fair number of Sioux bins. The Sioux bin is a good high quality bin. The weight of the bins is huge factor in how strong the bins are. If there is a big weight difference and price difference do a lot of checking to see why there is such a difference. Some light bins suggest external stiffeners that are not quoted at the time of purchase. Kind of a bait and switch deal.

I just looked at Superior bins on line. All the bins they show have external stiffeners. Do not know anymore than looking at the pictures. Just usually the cost per bushel is usually fairly close on bins of similar quality. So if there is a big difference in quotes you need to do some home work and see why.

I would rate Brock, Sukup, Sioux and Conrad as equal in strength and quality. MFS is fairly good too. GSI=light duty.

I would never own another GSI bin. Light weight bins, thin roofs. I had one. Darn near fell of it when the grab handle pulled through the thin roof. When the GSI bin was about 4-5 year old I switched to a batch dryer. I was dumping hot corn in the bins and cooling it in them. So the corn would settle. The GSI bin was a 36 foot bin when the corn settled it kinked the entire bin right above the air floor. GSI would not do anything about it. I took it down and bought sheets to replace the kinked ones. Traded it on a new Brock bin of the same size. 5000 lbs. difference in the weights of the bins.

I will tell you that getting a bin installed for this fall would be very iffy a round here. With a large crop and low prices storage is going to be in high demand. Local bin installation company says they are booked to Dec. with all sold orders.

Thanks for the information. Bins here are also in high demand. I will do more research. The superior bin quoted me was a stiffened bin, the Sioux bin although smaller, wasn't stiffened!

I have an older Sioux 32". When I was drawing wheel barrow fulls of corn out the door (it has an indent to dip pails out) the sheet above door started to crinkle.
