OT How many vehicles NOT named for a guy?

Brand names: Jeep, RAM, BMW (Bavarian Motor Works or Bayerische Motoren Werke), Infinity, Lexis, Jaguar ?, KIA ?,

Was Cadillac named after a person? or,a place in the area? Was the Pontiac named after the tribe or chief of that tribe? I'm not sure about those. The Amphicar just kind of named itself.

Cadillac was named after the founder of Detroit(I had to verify who Cadillac was, but knew it was a person). Pontiac was the place of founding I believe.

(quoted from post at 18:34:18 07/29/18) I thought Chevrolet was a person, I could be wrong.

Louis Chevrolet was a famous race car driver. Naming a discount car after him was a marketing thing.

Here's what triggered my question: Henry Ford, Louis Chevrolet, Dodge Brothers, Walter P. Chrysler, Ransom E. Olds (Oldsmobile and REO) David Buick, Charles Nash, Preston Tucker, many more probably.

My Mother-in-Law always drove a Ford, and called it Henry. To follow a tradition, I have Walter P. on the front of our old car.
Lots of people are clueless, and ask what that means? That's for Walter P. Chrysler.

How could I have left the Studebaker Bros. off my list of automobile people. Think they made wagons before cars.

Just watched the anual Amphicar splash in friday evening. I have not heard if they were able to make the world record on number of cars or not. One was pulling a aluminm row boat loaded with people out in the lake.

Don't forget DeLorean.

Here are a few that were NOT names after guys.
Seat, Auto Union,DKW, Triumph, BSA, BMW, Trabant, Sunbeam, Lada, Overland and Oakland.

The Delorean was built by John Delorean.Remember his drug deal he made,or tried to make to save his company? I kind of forget how all that came out.

Hummer, of course. Its predecessor, the jeep, may or may not have been named after a mythical creature from the Popeye cartoons.

Pontiac is an interesting case, since it almost certainly derived its name from the city where it was first manufactured. But the Pontiac logo for many years depicted an American Indian, presumably Chief Pontiac himself. And the Pontiac brand was an offshoot of Oakland, which got its name from Oakland County. (Pontiac is the Oakland County seat.)

> Was Cadillac named after a person? or,a place in the area?

Cadillac took its name from Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, a French explorer who founded the city of Detroit. But that lineage is a bit clouded, because there are a number of places named Cadillac as well, all named for the explorer.
