I have a 20 ft container converted to a hunting camp.it is wired 110/220 for lights/window AC and small hot water heater.it had an electric stove which was the only 220 volt appliance.my generator is a troybilt 5500 continuous/8250 starting watts.the stove was the first thing that came out when I got the container.my question is can I just plug it into the 110/220 outlet or is there something else I have to do?it is currently plugged in to my welding machine outlet.

Oh now you guys know why I need to haul it 175 miles from a previous post about a week ago

Not sure I'm following everything...

You are wanting to plug the container into the generator, less the stove?

Without knowing the amp draw, can't give a good answer. If you have access to an amprobe, and the container is still connected to power, you can experiment with different loads, see how much what is drawing. If no amprobe, look at the tag on each appliance, it will have amp draw information. Add everything up that will be on at one time, including lights. The generator is good for about 20-25 amps.

If the generator has a 4 conductor receptacle, it can be wired into the panel using each line, the neutral, and ground.

If all it has is a 3 conductor 220 receptacle, (no neutral) you can't use that as the container is wired. The panel will have to be reconfigured, either put all breakers on one line, or tie the lines together, (which will eliminate 220 availability) then it can be plugged into the standard 120v receptacle, NOT THE 220! .
Receptacle Wiring

The stove was a 3 wire receptacle,on a double pole breaker.to be sure I will get an electrician to check it out.as Clint Eastwood would say"a man's got to know his limitations "

If your stove uses the typical old 3 wire straight 220 plug and receptacle, its has two hots L1 & L2 240 line to line, and a Bare/Green Safety Equipment Grounding Conductor and will work provided BOTH your genset and panel are properly configured and ampacity is sufficient. If the generator is a true 120/240 Single Phase Three Wire unit and you have a typical 120/240 home type panel you should be good to go but NO WARRANTY NOT BEING THERE OR KNOWING WHAT YOU ACTUALY HAVE.

NOTE some gensets have a Floating Neutral while others have a Bonded Neutral. I would configure it as a Separately Derived System with a Bonded Neutral and also bond to grounding electrodes such as a "made electrode" earth driven ground rod etc.

If in any doubt consult a competent professional electrician NOT whats posted here.

Yea, there is something else you need to do, get a bigger generator! You have a 5.5KW generator, a electric range is typically 8KW or more and uses a 50 amp circuit. Same for a welder. Your existing generator might run a burner top or two, but it is way too small to run the entire range. The 220 volt receptacle on those generators are only good for 30 amps.

hat does "it" refer to? Stove, generator, container, different in different places in those sentences?

Junk the electric stove, get a propane camp stove, and you'll avoid a lot of headaches. Its a hunting camp, not your primary residence, so keeping it supplied with propane shouldn't be a problem. I've been getting good 5 gallon propane tanks for 5-10 bucks apiece at garage sales. We even lived in a trailer in the early 70's with a propane cook stove. It had a 10 gallon portable tank, and we only had to gas it up once a week or two.

Looking for a good used or re manufactured 6 volt positive ground generator. Must be exact replacement. Correct number is 1100530.
