OT: Lennon Sisters

Folks, I learned to be a fan of Lawrence Welk from my Mother.

Years of watching the Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday evenings when I was young turned me into a fan of the Lennon Sisters, and all of them became my first crushes.

Below is a link to my favorite Lennon Sisters recording.

This song was recorded during the period when Dee Dee (Diane), the oldest Lennon Sister, had decided to leave the group to start her family. Correspondingly, there are only three sisters.

FWIW, Dee Dee subsequently returned to the group.

I Understand

I agree.

I believe that "I Understand" was first recorded by June Valli in 1954.

It has subsequently been recorded by numerous artists including Freddie and The Dreamers in 1965.

Enjoy the original version below.

My mom really liked the Lennon sisters. Even though my name is Myron, my favorite was the lady that played the piano. She would play like mad and just look around and smile.

Thanks for posting.

Sounds like you remember Jo Ann Castle, the Queen of ragtime piano.

See below.

FWIW, Jo Ann also played the accordion, and well.

Yes, indeed, Larry.

Arthur Duncan was the featured tap dancer but Jack Imel (SP?), Marry Lou Metzger and Bobby Burgess (formally of the Micky Mouse Club), could also tickle the taps.

About 10 yrs. ago I went to Branson and took in a Lennon sisters show. I was seated 3rd. row from front outside and during their performance they came off stage to audience and one of them come over and sang directly to me and touched my arm. I think she loves me.

Remember Lawerence Welk very well, my parents loved to watch them!!!! BUT it came on same time different channel to non other then GUNSMOKE and I loved gunsmoke and u can guess what we (they) watched, LW!!!!!!!!

Turning in now so will post a link to my second most favorite Lennon Sister's song.

This song is most well known by Sue Thompson's wonderful version but The Lennon Sisters' version went to #1 in Japan.

Sad Movies

my parents and dads parents all watched LW show we kids didn't want to grandpa and grandma on Saturday night as we had to watch LW no matter where we were

It's amazing how much their talent comes shining thru when listening on modern equipment!
Like discovering them all over again!

Lawrence Welk was one of mom's faves in the late 50's,
so we watched and listened with a B&W TV with a single dinky speaker.

I was also a fan of the luffly Lennon Sisters- they first got me interested in barbershop quartet singing (the quartet in The Music Man was also a factor).

I think my grandmother claimed to have been Larry Hooper's 3rd grade Sunday school teacher in Lebanon, Missouri. I later found out the dates don't match up- she had left Lebanon years before he was born. But she may have said she taught Larry's father, which would have been possible. I guess we'll never know.

And a 1 and a 2 and a..............baton waving in the breeze. I like the way he took care of his employees. Good man, good music.

My 8 year old daughter LOVES watching the LW Show on old reruns. I couldn't stand it as a kid and not a fan now but she loves the singing and the formal dresses the women wear.

Boy you guys must be way older than me. I remember being forced to watch Lawrence Welk in the 60's. I hated that show!

Some of my fondest memories are of watching LW with my maternal grandmother. I was too young for the Lennon sisters, although they are great to listen to. My love was Anacani!

That's her and here is the guy she replaced "Big Tiny Little" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBR9hsNS0dg
