Long R9500 Special

I would guess you bought it right, that tractor should have a Perkins engine, it's a cross between a Massey Ferguson and a Landini. Good machine for a using tractor but as I am sure you already know it is not going to be recognized by most of the buying public, too big for the no nothing's.

Neighbor had one. He used it as his main blower tractor and manure spreader tractor. Good motor but clumsy to use some of the controls. He ran it until the hydraulics started giving him trouble. No one local could figure it out so he sold it to a guy from Canada. That fellow owned several other brands that where made in the same Italian factory.

Just ran across some interesting info about the Long brand of tractors.
From http://tractors.wikia.com/wiki/Long

[i:eae129ad2f]Long Agribusiness, LLC, or LongAgri, was founded in 1941 in Tarboro, North Carolina, USA by William "Bill" R. Long. It built only a few tractors itself before it started importing BMC and BMC Nuffield tractors under the Long brand. It later imported tractors manufactured in Italy by Massey Ferguson/Landini, :poland, (Ursus), as well as Romanian-built Universal (UTB) tractors (beginning in 1971). The Universal UTB's provided the bulk of their line-up. IN 1997, they began importing Farmtracs from India, and in 1999, LongAgri began importing tractors from LG Tractors in South Korea under the LandTrac brand. They also manufactured and/or imported implements, combine harvesters and grain bins.[1]

LongAgri had purchased a portion of Universal (UTB). By the 1980s, the company was struggling. Alvarez & Marcell, Inc took over the company to turn it around. In 1998, Escorts Group of India purchased 49% of the company and began importing Farmtrac tractors under the LongAgri banner. In 2002, Escorts made the agreement to purchased the remaining 51% of the company. It was eventually renamed Farmtrac N.A.. The LandTrac line merged in under the Farmtrac banner, but the LongTrac Universal (UTB) line remained.[2] Farmtrac N.A. went bankrupt in 2008, and the inventory was purchased by Montana Tractors. If it runs 6 months and blows up and you can?t get parts to fix it you can probably still get that much back out of it for scrap then it?ll come back in a second life as a harbor freight socket set that might last 6 months and the cycle will go around and around

You got a good deal on a 100 HP tractor. About any farm could find a use for one at that kind of money.

That?s a good price on it that?s for sure . The first tractor I bought was a big old ugly 4wd paid 800$ for ran it pretty hard for two years before it blew up it will never go to scrap though. Debating whether to rebuild the engine or swap a cumimins or something in.
