Lincoln Welder

I have an older ,gray Lincoln Idealarc 300 welder, it tries to start an arc and then acts like it is not getting enough power somehow? It does this on any setting, does anyone have experience with repairing these older welders ?

Assuming it is being used for SMAW (stick welding) there may be a faulty connection internally (or in the cables) Transformer based welders are most prone to connection failure, then rectifier failure, then transformer failure. If the open circuit voltage is as specified I suspect a connection. if way off, I suspect transformer, If no DC, rectifier. Jim
