Oil pressure

I have 67 farmall 140, oil pressure starts off good when you crank it up, once it warms up it drops to 20 psi at full throttle, once you idle it down it will drop to 0 psi and sometimes die but will crank right back up, changed oil, filter and oil pan gasket a few months ago, and changed oil pressure gauge when I noticed it started to do that

Oil pump cover is warped, or the gasket has blown out, or both. It is an issue with all of the letter series Farmalls, and your 140 is a descendant of the Farmall A. It can be fixed.

I had a similar problem with an H.

I dropped the pan and "Plastigauged" the rod and main bearings. They were all within spec. I turned my attention to the oil pump and disassembled it. I drew a flat file across both the body and cover plate of the pump and was startled at how uneven the surfaces were. I worked both surfaces until they were perfectly flat and reassembled the pump with a couple extra washers behind the relief valve spring.

It helped the oil pressure at least so I no longer see it as a problem.

Where is this relief valve located? Any kind of pictures would help, also when I changed the oil I put sae 40 in it, if that changes anything, idk what was in there before

You can lap it flat with sand paper on a known flat surface (piece of glass).

Use progressively finer paper, probably down to 180-220 grit.

I have done it the way Steve has, get a flat piece of glass, tape sheet of emory paper to it and get to sanding.

I worked on a couple with that issue. They had warped oil pump covers. One had a worn pump shaft. I was able to get the parts for it from IH back then. 20 years now maybe ?

I have the exact same problem with a Farmall super C. C123 engine.

The body of the oil pump is cast iron, but the cover is aluminum and was warped. I think some of the covers were also cast iron. I had to unwarp it and flat lap it. I have checked all over and could not find any aftermarket oil pumps or covers. The few oem pumps are outrageous in price. Cost more than the tractor.

The crank also needs regrinding, but the oil pressure was a lot better after refitting the pump cover and putting in .002 undersize bearings. I still have to put in new wet sleeves, pistons and rings.
