My favorite,
Just an Old Cattle Dog
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzId18TtoII

His ears are all tattered his hide is all battered and worn
For hes been number one on the cattle run since he was born
His old eyes light up when he knows there's is work to be done
Cause he's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run

Though his old eyes have dimmed as the years have just trimmed him away
Still he's proud and he's game he'll be there at the end of the day
Right there by his side in his footsteps he'll faithfully come
Cause he's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run

He's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run
But he's long in the tooth immediately I reckon his race nearly run
Ah but he'll be remembered for many years after he's gone
Cause he's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run

His spirit is strong though his body is tired and old
he'll still follow the boss through the long days just sharing the load
From the first light of dawn everyday to the set of the sun
Cause he's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run

There's a tree by the homestead where many old mates have been laid
And the old dog just knows that he'll join them one day in the shade
he'll be laid down to rest in that Billeroy soil when he's done
Cause he's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run

He's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run
But he's long in the tooth immediately I reckon his race nearly run
Ah but he'll be remembered for many years after he's gone
Cause hes just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run
Yeah he's just an old cattle dog out on the Billeroy run

I know just what you are talking about. I have my soon to be 18 yr old dog on my lap. Every morning we look to be sure he is breathing. He
can hardly move, his poor little back legs are just about wore out. He wears a diaper like a lot of old guys. All I ever had to say was "lets
go feed cows" and he was there, the NH 7635 is his tractor. He hauled a lot of bails, fed lots of cows, planted many acres of beans. I still
take him along if the cab is warm enough, doubt he'll make another season, but time will tell. We dug his spot under the tree a couple of
weeks ago before it froze too hard just in case. My wife and I cried the whole time. Drover has been a great companion,

Not really a dog song but in Mister
Bojangles when he says "the dog up and
died, he up and died, after 20 years he
still grieves.

I'm standin' at the crossroads in life
And i don't know where to go
You know you've got my heart, babe
But my music's got my soul
Let me play it one more time
Tell the truth and make it right
And hope they understand me
Now i lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soul to keep
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
Now Broadway's like a sewer
Bums and hookers everywhere
Winos passed out on the sidewalk
Doesn't anybody care?
Some say "He's worthless, just let him be!"
I for one would have to disagree
And so would their Mama's
Now i lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soul to keep
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
Now if you get an ear pierced
Some will call you gay
But if you drive a pick-up
They'll say "No, you must be straight!"
What we are and what we ain't
What we can and what we cain't
Does it really matter?
Now i lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soul to keep
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
If i die before i wake, feed Jake
If i die before i wake...
