Some miscellaneous rust from Iceland

I am in the middle of the north Atlantic now. Very windy as usual but not too cold. Should be a lot more snow in this area this time of year.

Some different machines, this being Iceland the faithful Zetor will figure prominently. Not much I can do about it, just the way it is.

The excavator with rubber on front and big steel wheels looks to be set up to be a compactor for backfill with those wheels? Never seen that. Also, the big McCormick seems to be a throwback to an older era name with a modern look. Wonder who actually makes it?

(sorry for the duplicates and triplicate photos. Only selected each pic one time. Maybe if you didn't like it first or second time around, third time will be the charm LOL)

Here's the McCormick. Maybe this site doesn't like Iceland so much. Hard time uploading photos.

RedMF40 The modern day McCormick came about when Fiat bought CIH. They had to divest in some tractor lines/plants to satisfy anti-trust agencies. So ARGO Spa bought McCormick and the Doncaster, England plant where CIH had made there utility tractors at. So this MX135 was made in that plant. It has an IVECO motor.

In 2007 Argo closed the Doncaster, England plant and moved the majority of the tractor production to Italy. There smaller models are made in Korea.

The Doncaster built tractors still had a lot of the CIH design left in them. They where pretty good machines. Mostly a fairly simple machine. Well the crazy in modern tractors is all HI tech. So after the Italy move they got into a more computer controlled type of tractor. The over all reaction to them in the US is that they are pretty undependable. The dealerships in the US usually are not BIG stores. So they rarely have highly trained techs. So complicated computer issues stump them it seems.

A dairy farm we hauled hay to had 4-5 of them. The Doncaster tractors they loved. The Italian built ones they hated. They had one big Italian built one that was 170-180 HP and it was out of service for almost a year with the dealership trying to get it fixed. Tractor ran out of warranty while the dealership was trying to get it fixed. McCormick told the farmer that any further repairs would be out of his pocket. The last time I was there he had gotten rid of all of the McCormicks.

There are a couple McCormac?s in this area and same story. Local dealer went bankrupt and now parts & service are a nightmare. It?s too bad because they are good tractors.

The first excavator has Ackerman colors. It is apparent which end of it you would do your digging over.

JD Seller--thanks for the information, very interesting story about the McCormicks. It is possible this one is waiting for service--after all it is parked outside the shop door and not out in the field or on the farm.

As a side-note, Iceland is where I come for vacation in the winter. Not really a good destination if you like warm temps and friendly weather. It can be wicked here with wind and driving snow, but this is what I like. Back home in Maryland it will be like summertime with the long daylight hours, gentle winds, and some warm days even in winter.
