backwards loader

I'm thinking of building another backwards loader. The old F12 is getting really tired. And I need something a little 'stronger' Thinking about an M. Maybe 'frank'(M400 frankentractor) and an F11 farmhand. Any suggestions or tips?Am I going to have to go with a W series top cover,or can the differential be flipped? Any pics? Thanks. Steve.

Modifying an old tractor is fun but expensive and you will always have little problems to work around. Why not just buy a USED skid steer--there are some really big ones--or if that isn't big enough get a loader from the construction side--those are huge.

I think the top cover from a 400 can be used to make it work D Slater should know. There is slight interference between the ring gear and the shifting rods or supports in the straight M top that must be dealt with. The people suggesting an alternative pre-made solution, are kind hearted, but do not know your mode of operation related to fabrication and alteration. Susie knows where you are when you are within a cable length of the welder. Jim

I did an AC WD back in the 70s...now I"d use a hydro steering unit from a combine instead of the gears and shafts. Farm Show has some pics of reversed IH tractors. WD is easy to reverse, just unbolt the pumpkin, flip over, and bolt back in. A WC needs a bit of grinding off cast inside the diff housing. Not sure about the IHs, but if you find the articles you could call the owner.

I've been told that it is possible to reverse an M with no alternate parts needed. Just put the ring gear on the other side of the pinion.

Delta if you do that use a bit newer tractor where the front is hydraulic like the 06,56,66 series. I think you could just reverse the lines to make the steering work like it does going forward. Could also just put that front casting in and older tractor like a 560or 400. If you found an old cotton picker tractor would have half the work done already.
