Cold starting, revisited

My son's current work "car" is a 2004 Buick Rendezvous.

Unfortunately, he discovered yesterday it doesn't have a block heater.

He said it started this morning, although not too happily.

That's COLD!
I don't have block heaters. Don't have Diesels either. Don't use 15w40 oil. Don't leave vehicles outside. Don't worry about starting either.

Feel sorry for those who worry about frozen batteries, fuel jelling and plugging in heaters.

In 1977 I had fuel oil furnace. We had-25 temps and I learned about fuel jelling. I'll never have an oil furnace.

Stay warm. BURR.

My wife has a remote start on her car. It is outside at -32 now. I told her to go out & start it & if it goes to make sure the oil light goes out. She said it would shut off if it isn't right. But how long would it run first? She has a doctors app. at 11.

I think most all vehicles sold in MN come from the factory with a block heater, at least trucks. I don't think our Subaru does, but it goes to AZ in the winter. Most motels have outside plug-ins, and the place I retired from had plug-ins in the parking lot. I have always parked in a garage at home since 1974.

I feel for anyone who has to be out in this kind of cold including livestock. I really feel for anybody that is calving now.

The cold did not get here last night, -24, supposed to be -30 tonight in east central Iowa.

My Diesel is in the garage, gonna stay there through tomorrow morning.

12 noon here In SJ . Was down to 16 last night. Nothing like you guys and you can keep it. Now you read about the artic vortex stuff, how blasted cold is it up there in Canada with the guys up there. Woof!

3 GM vehicals started this AM, no heaters on them sitting outside, Chriysler van started, Dodge van did not start. Grandson lost he key. The one we needed to haul feed didn't start, even jumping it didn't help, you guessed it F350. Gonna wait till Sat when it gets up to +40 and try it then. I gotta get rid of this thing asap.

If you need future brownie points for something or forgiveness for anything done in the past, going outside to start the wife's car for her on days like this is a easy way to gain them.
