We are driving from Houston to New Orleans next weekend. Does anyone have any places not miss or eat or see in between or in NO. We will be in No for 4 days then back to Houston and home to MN. Sure hope the weather is nice although anything will be more pleasant than this past week, it was rather brutal. Hope to see some sights and eat some good food. We like to do little side trips in the country. I am sure we will have a good time.

When in New Orleans, you must visit Bourbon St and the French Quarter. You are safe there, but do not wander too far off the beaten path.

There are at least two very nice casinos out in the countryside to visit. I have a buddy who goes there often.

A 'must go' when in New Orleans - Brennans Restaurant in the French Quarter. Fine-dining landmark famed for Creole cuisine, posh breakfasts and bananas Foster for dessert.

Address: 417 Royal St, New Orleans, LA 70130
Phone: (504) 525-9711
Hours: Opens 8AM
Menu: brennansneworleans.com
Reservations: brennansneworleans.com, opentable.com

If I were to visit New Orleans.

I would definitely see

The WW 2 museum.
Ride the street car down St Charles.
Try some king cake.
And have some coffee and beignets at Caf? Du Monde
Some pralines would be nice also.
Seeing Jackson square and taking a buggy ride tour from the square is nice also.

Even though I would never go I think it is a must to visit the quarter just so you can say you been there.
But like stated while you are safe there do not venture off the beaten path.

Brennan's and Commander's palace and others do have very good food but you will pay for it.
For me I would rather eat where the locals eat.
There is one local place. 10 miles from the closest stop sign out in the middle of no where.
It is closed on Monday and Tuesday and if you do not go early other days you will wait in line.
Middendorf's seafood restaurant. On a map it is listed in Akers, LA but the sign on the interstate 55 will say Manchac.

You "have to" go to Pat O'Briens and take home a "Hurricane" souvenir.

Even Pat O's has gotten to making the drink using the pre mix.
And you can buy the glass online.
Another go so you can say you were there but not what it use to be.

Finding someplace that still makes the drink from scratch is getting harder and harder each day.

My Son has lived in New Orleans for 12 years,,over all I don't like the city or the area,,but the WW2 museum is a must see,,it is amazing,,the French quarter is some thing to see "Once" and that's enough, it is a s*it hole for sure,, the same with the Mardi Gras.. once is enough,,I love the Red Fish down there, near as good as Our Walleye up here, and the Mississippi river is a sight to see and all the industry that it supports..
