Showcrop congrats on your award, that is really cool! Composite tanks sure don't have the life of the heavy old steel tanks. Also thanks for taking time out of your life to help other people!

The award was for participation. I was number three out of all members in number of calls answered. Leadership is getting discouraged with turnout levels, especially the early AM calls, so they decided to recognize the guys who do. At many of those calls there are just the four oldest guys who turn out.

I found out recently that the department I was with in Texas split about 2 or 3 years after I left. The new department was headed up by the best chief I've known, but apparently there were still problems. A few years later, the entire department was gobbled up by another department, and then a few years more into an even larger department.

I know when I was in, it was a fulfilling experience and lots of folks were there to do what they could.. Then they started pushing medical, and some folks (like me) may not have any interest in medical. Add to that the new restrictions for members with CDL....well, I see even more hardships in the future of VFD's.
