Loader quick attach adapter of some kind.

Friend bought a tractor with a loader (bale spear) attached to
it.
Seems like some sort of odd homemade orvstore-bought and
home adapted unit.
He needs a bucket for it. The spear is removable as seen in
the one pic. I am not well versed in loaders, especially
modern- quick attach types.

Is this anything that a bucket can be put on using the mount
that is U-bolted to the framework?
Or is this a totally unique piece that needs to be removed
back to the pins and a proper bucket attached?

I have no ide but told him I would try to help.

That spear is generic for most all brands of loaders. Just adjust the brackets for mounting pins. There must be a brand name on the loader and an ID tag. Tell him to go to any of the dealers in the valley and have them order him an after market bucket of his choice, that will pin rite on.

I would be looking to pull the pins and put on a bucket. I'm not sure that frame is heavy enough to fasten a bucket to (depending on use, etc).

What kind of loader is it? What is the pin size and the spacing between the pins (side to side and vertically)? That is what you need to know to find/modify/build a bucket for it.

Thanks Loren, that was my gut reaction for it.

He is a friend who moved from Edinburgh (near northville) to Tennessee. He had an old Case 500b when he was still in NY. Bought some acreage down south and is playing farmer in his spare time. Got a ford 4630 and now an IH 484 with a loader and some older NH hay equipt. Pretty challenging walking him through knotted issues over the phone. His wife is thrilled by all this too. Lol.
If he were local, I would have a better idea how to help and where to direct him.

That is a universal bale spear. If you want a quick attach adapter look at hayspear.com. They sell all different varieties. I haven't dealt with them personally but have heard good things from others about them.

looks to me like somebody welded those pieces in to keep the upper brackets from "walking" the U-bolts on the tube.

My brother put a quick attach IH 2250 loader with quick attach bucket, bale Speer and rock bucket on a CIH 495 same as 484. The loader was too heavy for the tractor. He always put extra weight on the rear even though the rear tires were calcium filed. Although some of the problems were his using it live a bulldozer. He eventually put the loader on aCIH 3230 which was a much better match. The 484/495 is very short tractor and a loader designed for a larger tractor, hangs our over the front too much if you are lifting heavy loads.

My brother has one of those universal bale spear frames, he also welded on a set of taps like on that one to hang a set of pallet forks.
It's not really a quick attach, is more of a universal attachment.
One can buy or make a set of quick attach brackets to pin to the loader that will accept modern bucket designs.
Or he can pickup a bucket cheap and modify it's brackets to fit his loader.

i worked for a dairy farmer they had westendorf loaders on their tractors. the loaders had levers that lifted up on the bucket and bale spears . then you just backed away and went to another attachment and hooked into the brackets when the bucket was tipped all the way back the levers dropped back down and you went to work no getting off to put pins back in.

True! move one set of top brackets to the middle and connect the top link on the rear 3 point to it, use that spear on the back of the tractor.

The loader may be a quick attach model but the bale spear is not. It is a universal pin mount. Your friend needs a pin mounted bucket to match the spacing of his loader arms.
