Did you knock on the door? Might sell you a project truck cheap. I was grown up before I found out there are people living in little houses like that in rural areas. Was on my way to an auction once and a school bus was in front of me. It stopped in the middle of nowhere and put on the flashers. Two kids got off and I was looking to see where the house was. They ran up a two track and went inside a very small camper trailer. Home sweet home.

Great find, Nice old panel truck. Some writing still on the side, wonder what business it worked for. Someone cared enough about it to lay a piece of steel over the top to keep the weather out.

Not everyone has a 3 bedroom brick home.

That house in the picture is a common sight in the Deep South and yes some are still inhabited.
While many may not want to face the fact because it became illegal years before there was still share cropping in the late 50?s to mid 60?s in the Deep South. You want to talk poor. That is growing up poor.

Some people today do not know how well off they really are because they have never really experienced dirt poor.

Chill out John, it was a joke. Rusty truck + rusty roof = matched set.

And while I'm from the south as well, the house we currently have ain't a whole lot bigger or better than that one!

Looks like an old dodge from the 40's. Would like to have it if it is. Siamese 6 with a 4 speed probably. Looks to need a drivers window. Would make a good service truck all enclosed like that with rear doors.

Kcm my response was not in reply to you. It was a reply to Dave.

"They ran up a two track and went inside a very small camper trailer. Home sweet home"

Dave seemed surprised that someone could live in a camper.
This insinuates he may be surprised someone may still live in this house.

When in fact we are not far removed from when living in a house like that was common place. And some still do even today.

My apologies John.

Have never cared to live in a McMansion, so we ended up with a farmhouse that had been abandoned for 20+ years. Sure is nice and quiet out here. However, it 'would' be nice now and then to have room enough to scratch behind both ears at the same time! *lol*

I was really young that day with the bus. I always knew there were people in the world that lived on a scale that was lower than where I grew up. What I learned that day was they were a lot closer to home than I had ever been told. That trailer in a field was less than hour from home. Then I joined the FD and found that people lived in poverty in my city. You enter a house and find a mattress on the floor in the coat closet or next to the flange in what used to be a downstairs toilet...both with sheets and blankets and toys. Honestly, that nice little house is a palace compared to what I have seen over the years.

hello, Red:
I think you referred to a Siamese 6 cyl Dodge engine? I have owned and worked on several Dodge engines 1949 and earlier. What does Siamese refer to?? Thanks!

DMartin--I I think you were looking for caterpillar guy. I would not know a "Siamese six" if I tripped over one crossing the street.

Quick search turned up this, however:

Siamesed cylinders are engine cylinders arranged in such a way that they have no channels between them to allow water or other coolant to circulate. Cylinders are generally arranged in this manner when the engine block is of limited size or when stability of the cylinder bores is of concern, such as in racing engines.

As mentioned, caterpillar guy seems to know about these engines.
