Well this weekend I looked closer at it and the gap between some of the blades and guard plates is 1/8 or so. This is a 501 14-92 but I have a 501 14-93 I bought for parts and it doesn't have gaps so I'm going to park them side by side and swap out the guards where there is a gap and see if the works. If not I'll try and bend down the hold down clamps some more.

The ford 515 sickle bar mower manual I have shows using a piece of pipe to bend the guard to close that gap. I've done that many times on many sickle bar mower over the years. You slip a long piece of pipe over the end of the guard and bend it upward to shape the guard as needed

Thanks Old I'll try that first. I'm still going to park them side by side under my pole barn so I can replace the ones that don't bend or break! Knowing my luck that is! Besides it's supposed to rain again starting tonight so no excuse not to fix it with them under cover. Boy those sure do beat the heck out of weedeating around a 1 acre pond.

When I could not grab a piece of pipe I found an 8 pound sledge hammer also worked. In all the years I have worked on and rebuilt sickle bar mowers I have NEVER broken a guard. I have broken them when using them but never when I was bending them into place
