I can get it cheap, but would want to resell it or part it out.

Sell it for sure but don't part it out. You'll be left with a hulk that you will have to get rid of with all the good parts gone. I'd sell it all or nothing.

Hi Dave,

This one brought $4200.00 at Mecum's auction but I don't think it is worth the effort. There are parts from four different planters from four different states involved. Had a friend one time who was a neurosurgeon took on a project of having an iceberg towed from Antarctica to Israel for a fresh water supply. After the project was completed his partner asked if it was successful and he said we proved you can melt an iceberg but said that it was not worth the effort. His partner replied that he once had an old girl friend that would fall right into that same category.

I would like to find a small planter like that . Borrowed a 2 row international one year and planted every nook and cranny I could into sweet corn sold 1300 dozen that year

I had one of those and still have parts and piece of it. It was to far gone to fix. If there had been enough of it I would have fixed it so I could have used it

It does appear to be unusual with 3 seats. If it?s original then I?d lean toward valuable. However it appears as if the lids are missing. The lids seem to be the most prized part of a planter.

(quoted from post at 15:54:17 05/09/19) A three seat corn planter. Very rare. Ron MN

Sorry to be an idiot but THREE PEOPLE would ride on that thing??? Or do you make several passes and change seats each time?

Maybe it's used for popcorn or sweetcorn or broom corn and planting by hand. I have an old 2 row set up to plant potatoes and it takes 2 people. I sold a barn fresh 999 for $750 7 years ago. It's unique and if cheap enough, gamble on it!

Pete sure wish you were here, around here two row planters are dime a dozen , pretty easy to find one in better shape that that one for much less. Yard art is what that is for sure.

I believe that planter was originally pulled by a team of horses. The two seats in front look to be pretty thick, so maybe they are cast iron. If they are they would bring as much for them as the whole machine.

Maybe only needs one person to operate. Other 2 seats are for company since it gets lonely back there.

Spent a lot of hours on one of those as a kid. Our planter monitor was a flashlight. Dad raised some pretty good corn back in the 50's with it. You were pretty busy on the ends with it.

I got a one seater just like it in the shed with the horse tongue on it. It has probably been five years since I used the team to plant my sweet corn using it. I hate it cause you can?t see over the Belgians to plant a good row! The old four row Allis plants my sweet corn a little easier from the seat of a tractor.

Have no idea why the extra seats. Would like more and beater pictures. But those 999 John Deere planters in Amish area bring good money for use.

You take off the cans and put these coolers in place. Wheel it to backyard for instant party. People will pay for something like that.
