1954 WD45 6v ignition system (gas)

Looking for a 6v distributor and 6v alternator. Can t find either one on the shopping site here. Does anybody have recommendations for where to look? Thank you!

Most any auto parts stores have the 6 volt coil. The generator on the other hand that would need to be taken to a alternator/starter rebuild type of place

Shelly: Looking at your attached picture, it appears that a single wire alternator has been installed, probably 12 volt negative ground, the only other changes would be
12 volt battery, light bulbs to 12 volt as original bulbs would burn out in a few seconds if run on 12 volt and either install resistor in power wire to coil or install
12 volt coil no resistor required. Please check what battery is installed as I'm guessing it is a 12 volt unless you changed back to a 6 volt in which case it probably
wouldn't run due to too low a voltage to the ignition system.

Thanks for the information! The mechanic that s working on it says it s all 6v from what he can see. I ll definitely have him double check what you said! When she almost kept running the battery started smoking. Could that be a result of what you re saying? Cause it would make sence!

I agree with the other guy it has an alternator and while they can be 6 volts if it is it is not common and would cost a lot to replace or repair. More then likely it is 12 volts and while it may have a 6 volt coil it is also likely to have a ballast resister in the system to break it down to 6 volts

(quoted from post at 11:10:05 07/24/19) Just reread your post, distributors are not voltage sensitive, only the coil or coil with ballast resistor would require proper voltages.
I know it s a 6 volt system. Wonder why there s 12v parts on it?

I'd guess someone dropped a 6v battery in it trying to make it run. Yes, they were 6v when new, but it looks as though it's been converted to 12v. Unless you just bought a 6v battery, I'd build it with 12v parts.
