High Clip wheel

I have a High Clip wheel for my sickle mower. It was my dads. However I would like to find another one. I m thinking it came with the Ford Sickle mower he bought in 1962. Has anyone seen one of these wheels?? I have seen the ones that attach to the end of the sickle bar but not like this.

I agree it would be easy to build. It is one molded piece, the axle is just a grade 8 five-eights bolt. There is some wording on the back called Hi-Clip patent pending. Hmmmmmmmm. Just really curious where Dad might of got this. I know we had a 501 Ford Pitman mower that came with the 901 Selecto Speed when he bought new in 1962. Though I could use another attachment like this for my other Sickle mower, I am interested who came up with such a good idea for mounting on the sickle bar.

would seem it would foul in high grass and ball up with weeds,, would eventually twist the bar,,,,,,

surprise they did just adjust the skid shoes on either end...

But it appears it has worked well over the years.

If i remember it right my dad bought something like that from Tractor Supply in the early 70s to mount on a IH balanced head mower for pasture clipping but it did not work well and he when he took it off to
mow ditches and under fence lines it never went back on. It probably would have worked better on a trailing mover than ours on the fast hitch of a 230. I do not think it was OEM but an aftermarket item that
could be bought from a implement dealer or TSC.

My guess is also fabricated. Some very
talented guys work in fabrication /
welding shops. Wheels like that were used
on gravely snow bloweres and were very
tough. Any high quality 6 inch wheel would
do. Industrial carts. Just as long as it
has a steel tube in it. That axle bolt
should be cross drilled with a grease
fitting. Have modified all of my wheels on
the lawn tractor decks to take grease. Work
very well. Just found this on Ebay, looks
perfect.

John Deere offered a skid or wheel for high cutting way back in the 30's, although it appears they mounted at the outer shoe vs. clamping to the bar.

Good Info. I actually have a 350 JD 9 ft that it works on really well. I also have the IH 100 7 ft mower. It gets a little tricky on getting this wheel to work on the IH Mower. Pasture clipping is exactly what I use it for. Some years I will drop it down to the next hole, which is about 2 inches. Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Interesting, I think that would work better than the single one would on the IH 100 3 point hitch mower.

I would also agree that it's an aftermarket attachment. Though the patent was pending at the time your wheel was manufactured, it may have gone
through at some point & a number or numbers were granted. I don't have the time at the moment, but I would suggest you do a patent search for it. It's
free & usually fruitful. I found it helpful when I needed to figure out how the Yetter trashboards mounted on my plow. Also found a ton of very
interesting info researching patents for IH hay conditioners. There are usually links on the page you are looking at, that will pertain to other
patents relevant to your search, etc. You can search by applicant, too. That's how I found out about my grandfather's patents.

Hope this is of some help.
