Fuel line - replace or discard?

Hi,
I bought a David Brown 30D 1955 re-conned engine out of a boat, and it has over 9,500 hours on the tacho, that being said, it may be off a old tractor.
It hadn't run since the recon several years back, but I bled the system and with a good battery started up suprisingly well!
Just behind the injector pump running over top of the oil filter is a clipped excess line, supposed to run back into the tank (pictured).
Can I just bung it up or should I get a line to run it back into the tank?
This is going into a 1950 DB Cropmaster to replace a rusty seized petrol engine.
Also the starter is not the greatest.
Help appreciated!
