Put in a new cutterbar, now I?m thinking about replacing the guards, the top guard is one I just took off, I bought a new one today to reference the wear on mine, is the top one worn bad enough to replace them? I was going to just take out a shim, but I want to do it right, the cutter bar bolts also seem to be rubbing on the hold down clips. Any info on repairing this would be appericcated, thanks

Remember that a sickle works like a pair of scissors. Both sides need to be sharp to work well.

The bolts hitting the hold downs is likely due to the wear on the rear ledger of the old guards. This ledger is what keeps the knife forward.

Looks like back side of guard is wore bad where bar rides.
As for rest of it not bad, whenworn in front iuse my 4 inch grinder and sharpen the legder up but yours are badly worn inback, new guard time.install new top plates too

There wore bad on the back where the sections ride, leaves room for a lot of slop and will be noisy. I use tie guards the ones with the top cover, but there as long as regular guards, and always replace everything as a set, guards, covers and sickle, cuts like a razor and completely quiet.

Best thing to do is get the manual and follow it. It's not at all unusual to find out your shims are worn, hold downs bent and worn, etc. You might also find the bed where the guards attach can bend or distort over time and it may require some special shimming. The guards need to line up across the whole bed. Like the other gent said- like a set of scissors!
