Started a winter project...

I started one of my winter projects today.

My wife said she wasn't going to mow anymore this fall so I dropped the deck out from under our zero turn mower and cleaned it up with my power washer.

There's some surface rust on the under side, so I think I'll strip all the hardware, spindles, idlers, etc. off of it, have it sand blasted, and start over with a good coat of paint and a couple of coats of clear coat. If the clear cures over winter maybe there won't be as many clippings stick as there have been.

I have all new bearings for the spindles so I may as well put them in, and a new belt, while I'm putting it back together.

I used to strip my Wheel Horse deck about every three years, clean it up and paint it. Haven't replaced the spindle brgs. since the early eighties though. It's a 1969 deck, got a nice spare but I'd like to wear this one out first.

(quoted from post at 20:22:21 11/25/19) Why not just clean it up as you plan to do and use 'bed liner' ? It is tough and easy to clean. HTH

And as soon as it gets a scratch it provides a great environment for rust to grow

I have not done it but I want to try Rustoleum Never Wet paint on a deck, Maybe a little more self cleaning I hope.
