1989 Concrete Video

Some video from 1989 showing how we mixed and poured a concrete footing for a new garage at my brother's place. Thirty years later the garage is still standing straight and level so I guess we did ok.
There is a good view of my brother's 830 Case right at the beginning of the video.

I did the same for additions to my first two homes. I put the footings below frost level though.

We would have to go down 8 feet to be below frost zone. Far as I recall only the houses go down that far. Bins, workshops and barns only as far down as it takes to get everything level. Seems to work. Yes, we use a lot of rocks in every cement project over the years. Makes it hard if you have to drill a hole in it but otherwise no complaints.

Looks like a red IH Scout is back there in the line of parked vehicles. Must be about a 79 or 80 with square headlights. jal-SD

It was a 72 Scout II with 304, automatic and two wheel drive. I'd sold it to my brother by the time of that video and moved up to the 81 GMC (that I still drive today). Both my brothers and my dad appear in that video. Dad was 71 and doing a good job with the cement trowel.

My dad and two other relatives made all the concrete blocks, and poured the floor in my brother's machine shop 35X25 that stands well today. 8 block molds such that by the time the last was filled, probed for air pockets, and troweled off, the first could be pulled and refilled. All of them were 10X15-5/8X7-5/8 Jim
