Last Tri Green Auction today

I went to the last consignment auction at Tri Green at London, Ohio today. They have sold their land and will have a clean up sale there on Feb. 8th and that will be their last auction. They are moving and will continue to do trucking and selling equipment at the new location. Sorry to see them shut it down, I enjoyed going there. Keith

Keith: Who is actually Tri-Green anymore??? I know that Dick and Judy split ways some years ago but have not kept up with what went on. There was one other sister and that was the TRI in Tri-Green. I know that one of them started back at the Father's original lot but never went there or heard of much form it.

In the late 1980s I bought a lot of good equipment at their sales. Then in the later 1990s it became a jockey lot with everything bringing retail with all the good stuff selling reserved. So I could no longer justify driving 500 miles to the auction.

The family is still running the sale. Judy is here in WI buying and shipping equipment into the sale. Dick and his boys run Green and Sons in London. In the early 90's I bought lots of small combines there and hauled them east. Lots of 3300-4400 Deere's as well as 300 Masseys and E III and K Gleaners. Bought a dozen or more tractors there as well. Judy still owns it along with some of the other family members. Judy's dad and mom started it. She told us that when she gave a little talk before they started selling.

I went to the vary first one they had . Met Dick Green out at Fletcher when he came up to me and my buddy and asked us to come to his first sale the next day . Over the years we became good friends Knew the whole group down there . The sales were large and the one day sales would last well into the night . My buddy and i toold Dick that he really needed to go to a two day sale asit was way to hard on us staying till the last dog was hung then load up and drive home in time to start the day . There were many times they would have a problem on a tractor that someone bought under the ride and drive only to find out that the seller did not tell the truth or lefft out that the piece of junk had a problem aqnd Dick would get me to go check it out to see who was right and who was laying. Several times old Bill would come up into my area for a sale and buy something and ask me to haul it down to London for him as all he brought was his pick up and wife , or he would buy more then what would fit on the roll back. Last i saw of Dick i was coming home from Texas with a big load on and i stopped at the fuel stop at 42 and I 70 to get a pepsi to try and stay awake for the last 4 hours to get home and ran into Ddick as i was coming out of the rest room . well somuch for just four hours to the house as he and i stood there for and hour and a half B/Sing . Times change and the days of big sales are gone , all th sales i use to go to other then Ted Everrt and a couple out in Il are history . Twice a month my buddy and i would leave out by 3:30 Am on a Monday morning for the first sale and we would be at sales all the way thru till late Saturday evening when he and i would come staggering home covering three states .

Your talking about Connie and Bob , Never cared much for Connie and Bob lets just say we did not see eye to eye . So if you were going to that sale then at some point in time we have crossed paths . I not only bought there but would also sell there . I put a bunch of good tractors thru there . sometimes i would buy out west the week before and just move what i bought out there to Greens and resell and the only thing i had in it was about 250 bucks trucking . Dick would be out there along with the rest of us and he would see what i had gathered up and say hey how about putting a copuple of them in my sale next week and i'll haul them as i have room since i did not get a full load .

I thought Curt Howard started it ? Tri Green took it over when Curt Howard didn't make out so well with it. . .Old Scovy.

Keith: The way I remember it was Dick and Bill started out as Green and Son. Then the original Tri-Green Auction was owned by Dick, Judy and Connie.

I dealt mainly with Dick. He and I traded/sold/bought a fair amount of equipment. Judy and I just never could see eye to eye. Connie was better off in the office, that is all I will say about her.

In the mid 1990s the auction changed. The Jockeys got so thick that there where few pieces that had not been bought and sold ten times before the auction. I could go directly to dealerships and buy equipment cheaper than the auction. The good, straight from the farm, equipment just dried up. So I quit going to the auction. I bet the last one of their auctions I went to was in 1997 or so.

I looked on their Facebook page and there is sounds like they are just quitting the auction. It did not say anything about them selling or moving locations.

P.S. One thing I do remember is the Amish restaurant that is 4-5 miles north of Tri-Green. Good food there.

Never made it to one of the auctions (due to them being in the middle of the week) but drove around the lot a few times. Always found something that caught my eye and would ask a price in the office. The women always came back with some ridiculous price. Never brought anything home...
