My brother raised cattle, and did mechanic work most all his life. A couple days ago he had severe stomachic pains. He lived with Mother, until she died, He called the paramedics. Got to emergency, and they started tests, to determine what is causing the severe pain. They operated and found his intestines had just about shut down. I was told by the doctor, there is nothing else the can do. In a coupled hours he died. I believe this is what caused his problem. He has been on oxycodone prescription drugs for years, for a bad knee, and never got it fixed, His intestines could not take any more abuse. Stan

That?s to bad Stan sorry to hear that . I agree all those pain meds are not good for your stomach but what do you do ? I can?t afford to get a new hip put in so instead I take pills I?d probably just as soon go a little early as give some doctor 50 grand and have to deal with the pain of having to pay it back the rest of my life a bottle of Tylenol a month Doesn?t look to bad along side all that . They got you over the barrel with your head stuck in the fence so pay it or deal with it .

I'm sorry about your loss of your brother. Sometimes loosing a close sibling is almost like loosing a parent. My condolences.

Thanks for sharing. Losing a loved one is painful. I am praying for God's love to give you comfort.

Thank you YT'ers for your compassion for our friend.

Stan, very sorry to hear of the loss of your brother.
My mother was on that for chronic pain for awhile, we were able to change her meds and eliminate this one, for the same reasons.

Sorry about the loss of your brother Stan. SV after seeing my dad with a bad hip and the results afterwards at 85 I would go get it done. I think I'm at about that point with a knee.

I am very sorry to hear about your brother. A sad way to bring in the new year. How old was he?

Very sorry for your loss. Thank you for the heads up on Oxycodone and stomach issues. I have in last two months started having stomach pain . I have had to use oxy for most of last 30 years for constant pain.. Also hate how my pain medication affect personality mood swings. Like I am two different people.

My brother Lynwood started out like me, and never went to college, even though we had the chance.
We both grew up on Dad's farm here in S California. He started out doing mechanic work for different ones. Then he got interested in raising cattle. He never had any land, but rented. Back then land was available. Towards the end he had a 5000 acre piece, and had close to 300 cows. Some dry years he had to have hay hauled in. When he lost the land he had to sell everything. He didn't do much after that. Then his knee got bad, and he started on pills. Stan

So sorry to hear of your loss. Did they figure the pain killers is what shut down his intestines after time ? Sorry for my ignorance on the drugs effects.

That is a well-known side effect of all opiates. The opiates effectively slow or halt the normal motility. You are correct in that it is not the stomach, it is the intestines.
