Tell us more about your 4520. .

Here's the condensed version. I bought it from someone our feed salesman knew. The old that had it was doing an in frame when he died and it set for years with the head off and pistons out cause the crank to rust bad.i believe I bought it in 1998. My neighbor and I went to pick it up about 90 miles away, it was valentines day and we got into a snow storm on way back and I missed dinner with my then( more xwife) girlfriend. We barely made it home with the slick road and my buddies dually dodge that it just turned way up for him and it just wanted to spin and slide ( I was just out of college working nights building teat engines at cummins so I knew how to make that dodge run but it would spin way to easy with all that power..later we replaced the rear end, tranny)
Ok back to the 45..we scaled it a few days later at 17,300 lbs. Went to shove it in the shop and the axles were the long ones and would fit in the door. Got the stihl demo saw out and 6vblades later shes in. Pulled the motor had block cleaned, head gone thru and bought a remanufactured crank for it( remember this for later.) About 6 weeks later I fired it up but it would not shut off..that when I learned about the cheap little injection pump they came with.got that fixed and took her out for a drive and it worked but I think our 4020 had more power..see above about pump. I bought a 4020 style pump and lines and had an adapter plate made at work( we have in house machine shop) The new pump brought it to life. Was using it that spring and lost hydraulic pressure, pulled the screen and it was full of metal..condensed version diff went out..installed a 4840 diff in it. Alls well till bout 2005 when I decided my old 7700 combine was not worth using any more so I rebuilt that engine and put in her along with an 8820 intercooler. Had my buddy and the new holland dealer bring out the dyno to break it in. Shes turning 177hp. Now days she just dont get much use. I had her at another farm setting in the barn just to shuffle equipment in the barn. Last year I spread some fertilizer with it and the next day it would only run if u pumped the hand primer. Now that I am working from home I hauled it back to the shop and the plunger on the pump was rusted so I got it freed and put in new fuel and she runs great. Sorry if my sentences are choppy I am typing this on my phone.

What engine? That is not a factory one for sure. We have a 4520 with the 4620 engine. Mine needs clutch work and an overhaul. Tom

I forgot the crank story. Once I got it running o had a slight oil leak coming from the clutch housing( o ya I put in new clutches) after several times splitting it and even splitting the trans case I found that one on the crank dowels was missing causing the leak..hey I was only 22 at the time!

My neighbor is in the process of doing up a 4520 he bought at ted Everett?s. I forget the story but apparently finding the steps are a big deal. He is a John Deere nut. He has a 4010 all dolled up. I forget the guys name but I believe he is in Seymour that painted it. You probably know the guys name. I think he?s a tractor paint legend. He also has a super low hour 4455. I forget the price he paid but he has the high price record on a 4455 with machinery Pete. I wish I had some pictures of his stuff

Nice tractor. My neighbor had one for years. He actually used to use it for chopping silage. Served him pretty well until he started using it for tillage. Could never keep the tractor from overheating. 4520 did not have the intercooler, but the 4620 did if I remember correctly.

forgot to mention while it was apart I also repainted it and install new tires.

My tractor sorta came thru Ted Everett, my feed salesman was his son in law so they loaded it for me. There are several real good painters in the area so not sure who did his. I guy in Brownstown painted the 4430 that was at the Deere booth at the farm show in Louisville. If your neighbor need clutch tools I have a set I copied from Deere.
