Semi Trailer

I bought a dry van semi trailer for storage. It is pretty solid, but the wooden floor has dried some leaving paper thin cracks between some of the planks.

I was thinking of putting a coat of varnish to help seal it better, but wondered would any specific coating be better for rodent repellent? Would the smell of Thompsons Water seal or an oil coat, for example, be better or worse or not matter...

Just wondering about anyone else's experience or recommendations...

Thanks,
Howard

I have two 48' former reefer vans, but they have aluminum floors.

If you use any kind of sealer, it should be something water-based. Otherwise, there's going to be an overpowering smell inside the van for a very long time. Guess it mostly depends on what you plan on storing.

Filling the cracks will warp the floor as the material absorbs water as seasons progress. The boards need space to expand.
I would do nothing unless ants or? start getting in, then I would use repellant or insecticide. Jim

hy is that not a problem with the overseas shipping containers wuth wood floors and darn near air tight? Just wondering?

When we buy new trailers, we treat them with a floor sealer called Floor Restore product number ec53ab. It is not cheap, but it sure works good. Look online or get it from a trailer dealer in your area. Bill
