Gas in diesel/diesel in gas- what to do

So- a few gallons of diesel got put into our gas tractor. Never ran, tank drained and refilled with gas. But I now have 4 gallons of what is, most likely, 50/50 gas and diesel.

What should I do with it- slowly incorporate it into the gas tractor or slowly incorporate it into the diesel tractors?

I wouldn't put it in a Diesel tractor, Unless a little at a time in cold winter conditions.
It would be better to burn a little at a time in your Gas tractor.
Be my thoughts?

A real good old friend used to put one gallon of diesel fuel in a 20 gallon tank full of gas in a brand new car with no problems whatsoever. He thought it was a good "break-in" fuel. He drove his cars for a long time before trading. They were always big Buicks or Oldsmobiles.

Got an old JD all-fuel tractor ? It would be fine in one of those once warmed up.
I'd keep it out of any diesel engines and no modern gas engines either. The burn pile is the best idea.

Blend a little at a time into an old gas tractor. Maybe at a rate of 10 gallons gas per quart of home brew.

Steve , I once grabbed a can of diesel fuel thinking it was gasoline and dumped it into our Case tractor, the tank was almost dry when I dumped it in, it started and smoked to high heaven , I opened the main jet and drove it 6 miles to the farm. All I did was add gasoline to it and used the tank up , occasionally reseting the carb. AS far as gas in diesel , Volkswagon used to recommend 30% gasoline/70% Diesel for a winter blend fuel.

never put gas in a diesel ,,. unless it is below ZERO weather , and then NO more than 3 % in a worn out motor ..DONT DO IT TO THE MODERN B/S diesel engines with the computers on everything . Diesel can be mixed to 30 % and burned in Gasoline engines on a hot day without hurting anything .,. sheesh!!!.... some of these dumdum ??? on this forum reflect that most of youguys did not grow up on a farm ,.. If One were to GO back 20 yrs and sample some of the topics here You would learn SO MUCH .

I use stuff like that for my burn barrel.if you have ever used a burn barrel you have probably noticed a garbage bag usually sweats or draws dampness and is sometimes hard to get burning I mix used motor oil with a little gas or diesel mixed with it to get the bag of trash to burn good that's what I do with stuff like that to me it's not worth damaging something that has no issues.Rick

Thanks all. I knew some used to burn it for winter blend in diesel. I couldn?t remember on gas. Little at a time it is in the gasser. Thanks

I would not use any gas or gas mix on or in a burn barrel ! That could not turn out well.

Way back when diesel used to be cheaper than gas, back when the world was halfway sane, I thought I would save some money by blending in diesel with my gas in my pickup. After a few days, I went to check My oil. To my surprise, it was way over full! This was in a low mileage motor, not one using oil. My theory is that some of the diesel molecules that get on the cylinder walls, doesn't get hot enough to burn, unlike in a diesel engine. Try this at home and see if you don't get the same results.

Goose ..... I think that Old Gent in DC not only has an attitude problem, he has a center-of-the-nervous system problem. Grumpy old fart just venting, somebody pi$$ed in his cornflakes this morning.

Michael you are correct about gas in diesel. I knew a Bosch trained tech said I could run up to 50/50 when it got to 20 below but better have it used up by the time got up much warmer

Years ago, my Dad ran the family car out of gas on a Sunday in a desolate area, he walked both ways on the road some distance and couldn't find anyone. The house trailer we were pulling had a kerosene furnace and there was about 5 gallons of kerosene in the tank. He made a funnel and dumped the kerosene into the car tank. The car started and ran, pulled the trailer to the next gas station filled it up with high test and went on our way.

The car was a 1955 Buick Special with a small V-8 and an automatic transmission, the house trailer was an 8' x 32' and fairly heavy, the car smoked a good bit, but we made it. There did not seem to be any long term detrimental effect on the car.

big dust up over $6 ?? Dont we have better things to worry about? WHat do I do with the 6 ounces of Jack I spilled into 12 ozs of coke last night?

I would use it a little at a time in a gas tractor, do not use it in a diesel, ever! I put a quart of diesel in every 5 gallons of gas in our Farmall C, just seems to run better.

When it hits 40 below here I have added gas to diesel to keep it from gelling up . I accidentally put 5 gallon gas in my truck hauling hay I put 3 gallon 15w40 in it and ran it that was 3 years ago

and I agree with you.! always seams to be the advise giver catches it when a question comes up that a person should know in high school. I knew that in junior high. and some people here don't even know what a burn pile is! now that is half funny.

"big dust up over $6 ?? Dont we have better things to worry about? " Sure got that right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just fill up your gas tractor with it in there and run it. We had a weekend on year doing field work. Ran out of gas on the farm .Would get 15 gallon of gas and pour in 5 gallon of diesel fuel go work it ran fine had that old Case for 20 years and 10 or so after the diesel deal. Fill and forget.
